What Tires Should I Buy For Longest Life?

That is what I have on my Yaris and there is 30k miles on it. I rotated the tires after 26k miles so the fronts are about half worn out and the rears about 90% shot.

Im thinking another 10-15k miles and I'll need new ones. Which might be 2-3 years at the rate Im currently driving.

But its not too soon to plan for new ones! Look for sales! Find a DEAL!

Ive heard of tires lasting 80k miles. Is that true or just internet hype? Maybe I should just get junk tires because I only drive 3-5k miles a year?

Tell me what amazing tires are out there you have experience with and what I should buy!

We have the Ecopia 422s' on the '11 FIT and seem to be wearing quite well . Start at 10/32's . The rears are slightly under 10 and the front are around 9+1/2 > 9+3/4s' . Got them for $59 each before tax . The Michelin Defenders may be an option as well . I think there's $70 off those . Keep the 422s' at around 35 . Let us know on your decision .

Keep in mind the trade-off between longevity and performance. Long life tires have a much harder compound resulting in low rates of tread wear, but will not hold in the corners like their sticker higher performance counterparts.

I've not owned them personally, but have always been impressed by the experiences of people I know running Generals.

I just replaced the 185/60 15 Firestone FR710s I had on my car. They had 85,009 miles on them and they would have lasted longer if I had kept them on the car. I didn't think they'd last the full length of the out-of-Texas driving I'll be doing between next week and early November. I took the car in to the Firestone store to get another set that I had ordered days earlier at their request. I walked up to my car after the install and noticed they put the wrong tires on my car. I pointed this out and the rep told me they screwed up my order so they upgraded me and discounted the more expensive tire to make my out the door price the same. He said I have 30 days to return or exchange them if I don't like them. I did some research later that day and nothing alarming came up, so I decided to keep the upgraded tires for the time being. As time has marched on (12 days on the new tires) I've been finding more and more reviews written by unhappy people re this upgraded tire -- the Firestone Affinity Touring. Given the content of some of the reviews, and a few other things (slightly lower MPG--but possibly not enough samples, wanting to get a full sized spare and wanting to pay $68 for it (not $125) etc.) I've noticed, I'm probably going to go back to the Firestone store on Monday and tell them I want the FR710s that I requested in the first place. TireRack has the FR710s the last time I looked, and their price was only about $1-2 more than I paid (per tire).

There's 5,000 plus miles on the 422s' . They seem to have a hard compound . Partially made from recycled tires . The GM dealer you choose to go through may match the internet price of Tirebuyer . Has to have free shipping / handling to match the online price . Our local GM dealer did this . Thus the $59 each .

I see in order to get this deal from GM one must apply for a GM debit card. That is fine as far as it goes but the fine print says that takes six to eight weeks. The offer is good only until the end of september.

Is there some way around this or am I missing something?

I think I will be getting these tires anyway but it would be nice to get a deal!

They are a bit cheaper than the Firestone FR710s (a little over $6.00 per tire), but will you get 80,000 plus miles out of them? I decided I don't want the 'upgraded' Firestone Affinity Touring tires that they put on my car (no additional cost) without telling me. I'm getting lower MPG readings on the Affinity tires, I don't like the 'PSI inflexibility' I mentioned in a previous post, and I don't like what I'm reading (more and more 'belt separation reviews'). I returned to my local Firestone Complete Auto Care (factory owned) location today (I'm within the 30 day trial period) and told them I don't like the Affinity Touring tires and want to exchange them for the FR710s. They put in the order and they'll be there ready to be put on my car this Thursday morning. I've had to rearrange my trip a bit, but it's worth it to me to have tires that I've lived with for nearly 3 years/85,000+ miles (1 set), and have confidence re how they will perform under many different conditions, on the car.

Sorry if I'm getting on my soapbox about the FR710s. I guess when I find that something has provided me with outstanding value, I'm not shy about it! Such products don't seem to be as plentiful as they once were.

Right. I use all three to go to work which is why the Yaris gets 3-5k miles.

Got the Affinitys switched out and the FR710s put on (see above) today. They didn't screw up the order this time! I'm SO glad I did this.

Latest fill of the '11 Fit w/ the 422s' . Seems like there's less effort to keep gas mileage up . The calculated was 40.33 ( 320.7 mis. / 7.951 gals. ) .
