The HB failed the CA Smog Check because the system says "Failed Purge Flow". Is that the purge VSV?

Yes - That is still the P0441 DTC.

Hey Scott -

Do you know if these Purge VSV are the same all across the compact and subcompact cars for Toyota? Corolla, Matrix, and Yaris? I'd guess the majority of these parts are interchangeable?

For whatever reason, the Yaris one is specific to just the Yaris. The part number is: 25860-21090.

okay i replaced it. Should the code reset on its own?

You will have to reset it manually.

dunno how it works in CA.. But here in Illinois, they will bounce your car if it has not been driven long enough after the code reset. I do not know how long that is.
I don't know about toyota, but GM will give a "not ready" after a code reset for some time.

I think my mini OBDii resets codes. Ill check. The last time what I did to reset the code was unplug the battery and left it unplugged overnight. Is that not another method?

I thinkn 5-10 minutes should be enough for the battery pull

Battery pull (5 minutes) definitely works for resetting of that DTC.

Yep the mini OBDii has an erase button. I erased the code this morning. It hasnt turned on since then. Is there a way to make sure it's not failing? I average about 14-20 miles every 3-4 days. I dont really drive much. If I need to I ride my bicycle within a 10-12 mile radius.

Again, that test only gets performed after you have driven for more than 10 minutes and then shut the car off for more than 6 hours. If you have ever walked by your car after it had been sitting for the better part of a day and heard it making a buzzing sound, then that was the test happening.

hmmm so today I drove 40 minutes and left the car parked for about 5 1/2 hours then drove off again for about 20 minutes. Should that have triggered the sensor if working or non-working? so far no check engine light.

No. 6 hours off is the minimum to trigger the test.

So far no check engine since the night before day and yesterday. I borrowed this purge VSV from a friend that has the 2009 sedan version. His check engine did turn on using my Purge VSV so at least I know that my purge VSV is the problem.

Now it's a matter of finding the part either on ebay or at a salvage yard unless someone on the board has a working spare.

Thanks for all the input.

cool, switching the part passed smog. Now I need to find my own working purge VSV.
