I just installed a Spectre CAI unit (with an MAF sensor connector on my 2011/12 Sedan. Installation was easy, except for the MAF unit, which was kinda guess as you go. I positioned the sensor in the same position as it was on the OEM, and all connections are tight-but it runs like poop! I took the whole thing back off, put all the OEMs in place and now everything is fine. Can anybody help?

Did you disconnect the battery to let the ECU re-learn after you installed the CAI?

I haven't seen the Spectre one for the Yaris, but the typical issue with generic aftermarket ones is the pipe being the incorrect diameter. The MAF sensor is calibrated to the diameter of the pipe it is mounted to. If you change that dimension then its data and hence the ECM's interpretation of airflow into the engine is skewed.

It looks pretty standard...

They go for around $70. If the filter is oiled maybe the MAF got fouled.
Hey, does the MAF have a direction? Can it be installed backwards? I'd yank the battery cable to reset the ECU, see what happens and go from there.
