Hi all, this is my first post here. I have been through a lot of searches on this site and could not really find what I'm looking for. I need to buy a fault code reader for an automatic transmission Vitz 2000 1 litre model (my wife and mother both own one). On one of the posts here, it was said that that first generation Yaris/Vitz models are OBD2 compliant. The problem is that I could not find a seller on ebay that confirms that their fault reader is compatible, when I ask the seller, I either get no answer or they simply say it is not. Is there someone who has successfully used an OBD2 reader on this model? If so, would any OBD2 reader work or does it need to be made to a specific make and model, as I find that sellers seem to indicate that the reader is not generic.

A few weeks ago my wife's Vitz started to show up the engine management light after few miles of driving. Now the engine is hesitating/missing when taking off from standstill. I am suspecting the Mass Airflow Sensor but I need to be sure. I will attempt to clean it if I can find a proper cleaner and see how it goes.

Anyway thanks for any info.

You need to make sure that it is OBD2 compliant and ISO 14230. ISO 14230 is the protocol which uses the K and L lines, rather than the CAN bus lines for diagnostic communications.
