Hi guys, just got a 2005 Yaris RS or Vitz as the imported ones from Japan here are called.

So i've finally got around to popping a CD in it, and at first there was no sound. Finally i managed to figure out that the fader was on the back speakers, and once i put the balance to zero and the front ones it was playing just fine.

But now i'm wondering why i get no sound from the back speakers, does my 2005 model XP90 not have any, or is there an issue with them?

Have you looked to see if there are speakers back there? lol

From the Japanese Yaris wiring diagrams, the rear speakers were not including on some packages. As mentioned above, you can look through the speaker grill to see if there is a speaker or if it is empty.

Good idea 47 Mason, lol.

That would really suck, especially for the price i bought the car. But i suspect that's the case, given i have just the basic CD player unit and it's one of the early XP90 models.

i seen door panels on the rear doors of a vitz before in jp and it had zero space for speakers lol

Exactly enviri, i don't get it. Where are the rear speakers in a Vitz? They're definitely not on the back doors, i had a good look today and found nothing close a grill.

you probably have very different door cards than we do here. Here's the speaker grill in my rear doors.

Yeah, got nothing like that on the rear doors. I do on the front though.

So what do you guys suggest? What's the best way to compensate for a lack of rear speakers? I don't want to mount traditional dual speakers, because there's literally no space anyway to cut out a spot for them.

Is there some other type of speaker i could use for the back?

Even my Rs does not have any speakers on the back, luckily I'm not into sound a lot when driving although I love rock music. If I where In you I would try to change the stock speakers (Front) with a better brand/quality 3way speaker option.

All my speakers are in the front! what's wrong with that? even the subwoofer!

your doors will most likely have a spot for a 6.5" speaker in the metal frame. It's just that your door cards wont allow any space. You can either:

-cut open and modify your door cards
-find door cards that allow space for speakers

Are you sure, enviri? It looks pretty tight at the back. I'll take pic and let you guys judge for yourselves.

remove your door card and look for a big gaping hole in the metalwork. im pretty sure toyota didnt use a very different rear door for your cars--it isnt cost effective

There are no rear speakers in a < '05 HB, and no previsions to put any either. There's only front door speakers and 3.5 or 4" dash speakers.

And if you heard his car, you might choose to go that way too.

QFT

Echo hatches had no rears speakers, this is normal.
