Thats a hard itch not to scratch. Personally, I always regret switching from somthing that's always worked for me. Plus, what if you have a mishap, you'll always wonder what happened and if switching brands caused it.

You can't always coorelate quality with price. Just look at what we all drive.

I think my Toyota is only like Castro, i can feel the power of it.
I had tried all other kind, but i'm really not satisfy with it, My girlfriend got a Aveo and her car drove very smooth with some cheap ass oil, but not on my Yaris.
I had to choose "SOMETHING ELSE THATS MORE EXPENSIVE..." but what I really mean is: "Whatever the Toyota service monkeys put it in it".
Seriously, this is not a high performance engine, it doesn't rev like crazy, it doesn't have forced induction, it hasn't just been blueprinted, expensive oil will not improve it's performance, and Toyota will continue to give a 3Y/100K warranty no matter what freakin oil you use. Nuff said :)

+1
If its just a DD, who cares.
For performance apps, Royal Purple FTW.

I've used Mobil 1 for over 20 years.
I first put it in an old Ford with a clickity-clackity 302. The valve clatter disappeared for good.
I've driven each of my last four cars over 150,000 miles.
No way would I go past the 5,000 mile mark without at least a filter change.

Is there a reason you didn't used the same brand for both, engine and tranny?

Due to a recent 1 year long test independant from manufacturers I read. I would say if you change your oil anywhere this side of 10k miles, which most of us do, Mobil 1 is fine. The tested Mobil 1 for a year and Amsoil for a year. Only reason I say Mobil1 is that it is available everywhere. Not a special order or outta your way oil to get.

Thats why I have mobil 1 in the car now... it made a BIG difference in cold performance... not that I mash the gas when I first start it, but its much smoother to the 2000 or so rpm i take it to when cold... and from there, the idle is smoother and much more consistent. It also happily revs to redline now, not that it didn't before, but it seems a little happier at 6000+ rpm now :). Its too early too tell, but I averaged 35 mpg on 50/50 city/hwy without "trying" to conserve gas... thats my highest yet short of pure highway driving.
I dont see a point in using anything less... the motor was so nice to the dyno oil that was in there before, I'd say it could easily run past 7k this change.
Next change will be with AMSOIL though :headbang:

is it possible to just change the filter every 3000 miles without much oil wasted?
or is it going to drip the full 4 quarts?

If you look at that study...they didnt change the filter until I believe it was 12k. Im pretty sure that changing your filter whenever you change your oil is perfectly fine for the filter. Get you some strong magnets and a magnetic drain plug if your really worried about it.
