So like, I'm on my way home from school to grab some shorts and shoes for my winter drumline rehersal. I'm going down Vine Ave and theres a 4-way stop, so I turn left and I see traffic stacking up, so I get out of the way (because I was on left lane) by merging to the right lane and I couldn't see if there was a car/truck turning left EDIT:(Because there a was another 4x4 turning left blocking the view) so I'm still going about 30 -35 (Thats speed limit) then I see a nose of a 4x4 truck and as soon as I knew it, it was too late....

I am inclined to agree

How does a lease effect getting a new car once totalled?

Looks pretty ugly up front, but the passenger compartment looks untouched, thats always a good thing at least :)

But either way seeing a crashed yaris makes me wanna :barf: :(

So some type of Cylon-style virus infected your electronic controlled 4-speed auto, took control of the electric power steering and fly-by-wire throttle, and forced you into the path of a 4x4? :eyebulge:

Uh-huh, the Tacoma got a scratch and your car was totalled, but imagine if it was a pedestrian that got hit and not another car...

No chance at all that pedestrian would live through a Tacoma hit, but there's at least a some chance (well multitiudes more) that they'd still be alive and kicking after taking a hit from a Yaris.

Safety has a number of angles, and I'd much prefer to drive a car that gives people a chance at life.

Yeah. Let me try and summerize it.

I was heading towards a 4-way stop. I turn left on that 4-way stop. (Take note, this is in residential area, so speed limits is about 30 -35) This was during rush hour when people are picking up their children. I see a stack of traffic up ahead because there was some 4x4 truck in the way, on top of that, I couldn't see if anyone was making a left. I merge into the right lane to avoid that traffic cause I was behind the traffic. Looking if there was no on comming traffic, I made my turn and wen't straight ahead...20mph...30mph... out of nowhere theres the 4x4 truck's nose I see and all I remember was slamming the brakes and airbag deploy. Pretty much we both didn't see each other, but what I'm being told, I had the right of way cause when your making left turns you yield to on-comming traffic, not to ay attention your kids at a corner of a street.

*Update*

So my mom's insurance company call her back because I had told her that the other person's insurance company had called me for a record statement. Supposedly what my mom told me what the other insurance company had told her was them too, are at fault of the accident because the 4x4 was suppose to yield to on-comming traffic. So they just wanted to hear it from me. On top of that, my mom got the fax report on where the damages are, but she didn't sign the papers to give them the consent to see how much its gonna be for the damage on the car. In the mean time I get a rental car, but I need to call back the insurance and give them my story.

Hopefully the rental car is stick...I'm officially scared of Autos.

Btw, here are more pictures of the accident, since I only gave one.

I'm also in a rush and tend to speed all the time and had to develop some defensive habits. One of them is, if you're going through an intersection in which your view is obstructed, expect the worst.

If I'm speeding and have a clear view of all the traffic before the intersection, I'll still scrub down the speed a little (and a lot if there's a police cruiser near by) with my foot hovering over the brakes through-out the intersection. It's the intersection that's the biggest worry.

i'm still at a loss as to how an auto had ANY doing to your wreck other then a truck pulled out in front of you. If you blame it on the tranny then you're a dumbshit.

eTiMaGo
03-10-2007, 07:31 AM
Well think of it this way, I don't know if this is what he is trying explain, but in a manual, if in a panic you let your foot off the gas but do not brake, the car will slow down quite fast and probably stall.

An automatic, though, will happily keep going straight ahead, you need to brake for it to slow down and stop.

I might as well post my wreck pictures up. The car is all repaired now, good as new. My girlfriend was driving my yaris on December 20th when a guy who was in a left turn lane opposite of her didn't yield to her right of way and she hit him going about 30mph. She totaled his '04 Nissan Altima! I had about $5k worth of damage done to mine.

I was actually kinda hoping they would total it out so I could go back to the dealer and get a bayou blue 5spd LB, but I am just super happy to have my car back (and now that it's nice out, my 17" wheels on), and be out of the rental car I had for 75 days, a POS Chevy Aveo hatch. The shop has been really good about fixing minor issues after repair (as they should). I just got it back this afternoon to fix the front emblem that was kinda loose. They even fixed a couple scratches that weren't related to the accident. (ie: stupid car topper for papa john's pizza scratched the roof.) Yeah, I use my Yaris for pizza delivery. But just for car/insurance payments purposes. I have a FT job as a designer. Needless to say the GF doesn't drive the Yaris anymore, even if it wasn't her fault!

I was immobile in a snowstorm after i hitted the left side of the road (have lose control). The front stock in the snow at night. Two cars have hit the back/trunk (the trunk was totally upside down). So i decide to get out in the middle between the two highways. While i was calling the police a huge pickup have done this. Autority said i could not survive that violent shock. Getting out even if i know was not recommended was the best decision of my life.
