It's starting to get cold and I'm looking to undo the AC from the defrost setting. My problem is getting it all loose. I just have a fear of breaking something. Here's a pic if needed. I need to get behind the dial circled in red and assume I just pry off the whole panel outlines in yellow. Thanks for any help.

The compressor does not kick in for defrost unless you push the A/C button (on the right) while using defrost. Thus you should not need to disconnect anything.

The AC EWD for the 2012 shows that it has the same linking of the defogging position of the first knob to the output of the AC switch on the third knob. It looks like you can simply disconnect the light green wire in pin 1 of the first knob connector to unlink it (as opposed to having to pull the knob apart, like what had to be done on the 2nd gen).
As for removing the control panel, the service manual doesn't show and fasteners, so it does appear to just pull off.

You can probably purchase a paper version from you local dealer for a wheelbarrow load of money, or you can subscribe to techinfo.toyota.com for temporary access.

Ya why? I always use my AC in the winter in conjunction with heat the re-circulation button to clear the car of excess humidity.
