View Full Version : Custom Mandrel bent exhaust

Just wanted to show off my new exhaust. I got it from Malibuguy. He put a kit together for me. I am not 100% on this but I think he is a supporting vendor now.

I am not a flashy guy so I opted for aluminized steel (I planned on painting it anyway) and a straight through muffler. It is 2" mandrel bent from the resonator back.

It involved welding at the resonator and 2 clamps to connect the rest of the pieces. It went pretty well and relatively easy. The friend that helped me wanted to test fit the crap out of it (probably for the best). Everything went without a hitch. It looks good, sounds good, and feels more powerful.

Anyway, here are some pics.

The muffler all but disappears in the shadows of my car now. I kind of like that look.

Thanks again to Malibuguy for putting this together for me.

Awesome! Looks great, I just installed my TRD exhaust too. Any dynos?

BEEF

no dyno yet. I was going to wait until I do everything I want to on the car before I dyno it.

living in NC means we don't have that many dynos around anyway so it is a bit of an ordeal to take care of. I'll eventually get around to doing one though.

thanks for the compliments guys.

my idea was "all go, no show" (maybe better "some go, no show")

what are you doing for performance mods again? really like the way that it turned out.

That's absolutely beautiful pipecrafting, Malibu!

I like the unobtrusive flat black stealth look too, BEEF:thumbsup:.

Can you post a sound clip?

BEEF

fnk, I will probably just do the crank pulley and possibly an intake manifold. I have played around with the idea of the blitz but still thinking on that one.

tooter, my sound equipment (yea, laughing on that one) isn't really good enough to reproduce good sound anyway. I have a camcorder that is a few years and it was bottom of the line when we bought it.

I was really happy with what malibuguy did for me. I would recommend him to anyone.

Hi, do you know if malibuguy does work in stainless ?...can i ask was price he charged you for the mandrel bends ?...it looks great !

I think he specializes in mandrel bent stainless. he is a member here and that is his screen name. I think you may have issues with shipping. I have heard shipping to canada from the US can be expensive.

I would rather not say what i spent. I will say it was less than a lot of the axle back systems out ther.

Woohoo! Im glad you like it and it fit fine! How much did you have to trim off the one pipe for proper fitment?

yeah, the second is better. "All go" would have meant deleting your cats.

malibu,

I ended up trimming literally 1/2" it was almost spot on. You may end up getting some more business off of this one. Not sure if that is good or bad. I really like the fitment and the pipe diameter was very noticeably larger.

garm,

unfortunately I live in a state that won't allow me to do that. Mine is a dail driver so I need to keep it street legal. Technically I think I could have deleted the rear cat and the resonator but if it is noticed that I removed equipment, they could ping me for that too.

So do I.

I took the yairs out to muffler shop and cost $100 for 2.25 piping. I would like to know what are those two right after O2 sensor. Cat and resonator? What if i take those two out? Sounds deeper or sounds like lawn motor. Thanks!

Can I recommend some stuff (if you're looking to free up some power)

I have the complete pulley set (all 3 lightened) and it made a noticeable difference, however not as much as lightweight wheels (ie:sub 10lb)

Also, now that you have exhaust - you might look into header (I know that on my last 1nzfe it really helped alot once the header went in)

Just my opinion (others may vary)

Good start so far

Pretty sure it goes like this:

Head > Header w/O2 sensor> flange > 1st cat > second O2 sensor > 2nd cat > resonator > piping > flange > axle-back muffler > tip

I would like to know what are those two right after O2 sensor. Cat and resonator?

3cyl,

I already did the header. I was actually going to do them both at the same time but got impatient and since the header was in my laundry room, I went ahead and put it on. there is a thread on it. http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40951

I have thought about doing the light weight crank pulley and a friend of mine is trying to talk me into a light weight flywheel.

the wheels for right now are fine and I kind of like the unique look of them (and they were cheap). may be something to think about in the future.

for now, I have spent quite a bit of money on my yaris in the past 6 months or so. I need to lick my wounds before Christmas. I will probably hold off on anything else until next year. then again, next year isn't that far away.

Cali (garm)

you are correct about the exhaust flow

I love this setup.. If it was possible, I'd like a mid pipe with a High flow Cat up to the rear axle so I can keep my axle back exhaust.

I modified an OBX exhaust to accomplish what you want.

mmm.. good idea. thanks.

Yeah I got a qoute from a couple exhaust shops and they are asking 120-150 for resonator back piping and that's not stainless. so pretty good price for a custom set-up and also can leave the stock exhaust un-molested

Pipe size is 2.25 and its 16 gauge SS. A catalyst costs about 80 dollars give or take and the rest is up to you.

thats for crush-bent 14g aluminized steel...that pricing is just about dead on for any typical muffler shop job...which is something i would not recommend if you actually want power, as it is not actually an upgrade over the factory mandrel-bent SS tubing. if you are just after sound, then by all means go for it.

i'm not a vendor just yet, i'm working on offering more things to offer everyone...maybe a month or two

Long tube header, 200 cells cat and a center muffler with a dual twin pipes on each side .... All In stainless steel !

I think it'll be cost more than my Yaris ... Lol
