Everyone is still hyped up about US Yaris....Flash forward 10 years...will we still love our Yarii??...if you plan to keep it that long.....

Key for me will be the much ballyhooed Toyota reliability. If I start seeing multiple problems after a couple of years it will be downhill for me.

In 10 years hopefully we'll own the next generation Yaris(If this gen. sells good enough) with keyless ignition and a tachometer :)

Well, if my Yaris is anything like my 93 Tercel, then I know I will still love my Yaris in 10 years. It was the Toyota reliablity that brought me back to them, and the price was perfect for the Yaris. I'm happy now and anticipate being as happy in 10 years.

no doubt we'll still be loving our yaris. i still love my '97 civic hatchback, even though my nephew now owns it. every now and then i'll still run into a modification that i'd like to do on it. but then again, im not like the majority of americans who trade their cars in after 4 years. most of my family keep their cars for around a decade...

Although I may buy some other car in the future, I still think i'll keep this one, just for modding, and sentimental value of course.

Unless I crash it and turn it to a vertical pancake first, who knows?

This reminds me of what happened with the Saturn owners, except the Japanese influence on this car is pronounced. In short, rice is nice.

This Yaris thing isn't going away. I've had this car for 8 months and the reaction I get from people now is the same as when I first got it. How many people do you know that don't smile when they see a Yaris????

I bought this car cause I loved it. I will drive it until the wheels fall off. Unless that is my lifestyle changes (kids to be exact) but I dont see that happening anytime within 5 years at LEAST. If anything I'll just import a 5 door...

I have a friend who got his Jetta in '97 brand new. As of now he's still in love with her.
I don't know if this will be the case with me.

I will if I still have mine. Who knows what the next ten years holds for automobiles? I'd like to have a flying car by then....

I think I will always love my little frog. However, I don't know what waits for me around the bend (getting married, moving, whatever the case is), so I don't know how useful will it prove to be.
Nonetheless, I think that it will always prove to be a perfect commuter, with a mix of size and cabin space hard to match, so I don't so why I shouldn't love it (heck, after 7 months I still get a buzz every time I drive it stock!)

I have a friend in FL. who owns a 1986 Corolla GT-S, a Datsun coupe, and a 2003 Camry SEV6 since he laid eyes on them.

His 39 now and he still drives and tunes his 20yr old panda hachi-roku
("cant seem to find my memory card where the picture is stored")... same with the Datsun his dad gave him, but this last month it broke down because it has about 290+K miles on it... his waiting for the new SR20 engine and other parts too come...
he has a Camry for for his kids... "he doesnt like it as much as his 80's cars"
I dont know why, but he loves his old cars from his youth to drive and play with more than his new car... maybe coz its a head turner...

I guess we wont get bored with our Yaris for the coming 10 years "except if gasoline ran out" we have to buy 4 dynamo motors and rechargeable batteries for it... but come-on with its fuel economy, easy to fit anywhere capability, tunability, quick turning, and alot more! we sure wont be tired with it.

I'll get my Yaris on tuesday!!!

I'll be sure to keep mine around more than that amount of time. Only thing I'm not really feeling is that plastic rattle I still have and I can't find where it's coming from...might have to take apart the passenger side door panels and have me a look.

Trust me I have seen worse Neons. I had several Neons Never had much of a problem. But my Yaris is way better.

Same here, I still have fond memory of my 98 Hatch (which had 6K in upgrades). I hope my new Yaris will last me 10 years, but I'm not banking on it, since in 10yrs, the car will have accumilated 600,000km.

That is only 372,000 miles or so... when I used to change oil back in the day I used to see god knows how many Toyota's and Honda's with well over 400,000 miles, 643,700km... about 1/2 of those people used synthetic it's whole life, the other half bought em used and were just lucky i geuss

Right on.

I've only had my Yaris for 8 1/2 months, and I'm already looking around.

The only cars I keep for a long time are the ones I dump too much money into (see my sig).

Hopefully, I'm one of the lucky ones. The engine will have to be strong to stand-up to all the beating I'm giving it.

Switching to synthetic is going to be expensive since I do 8 oil-change/year, which will cost me about $350/year for the sync oil. That's a hefty price to pay for something that might not help in the long term. I can see how synthetic can help to keep the cylinder wall in above average condition, but that's not going to help an old engine that's been fatigued enough so that it's about to break from the constant pounding.

you change your oil ever 5000 miles 8000km?

so you drive 40000miles 64000km a year?

and where are you getting your oil for some 40 bux?

just got mine done today with mobile 1 0-20 Fram filter.... $25

U buy the oil and filter and they will do it up at the local lub shop for nothin most of the time
"but that's not going to help an old engine that's been fatigued enough so that it's about to break from the constant pounding" There is not going to be a constant pounding if you use good oil and change is when needed

Yep, I'm getting the oil changed at the Toyota dealership at every 8000km. Mobel-1 oil is about $10/Litre after tax here in Canada.

I'm not totally ruling out synthetic, but the Toyota oil seems to be holding up well between intervals (the old oil is still light & clear when it's ready to be changed out). Between changes, If the oil starts to get too dark, I'll probably switch to synthetic.

In my Old 98 Civic Hatch, I used Mobel-1 since new and I finally retired the car at 300,000km after I cracked the head gasket. I think the gasket went cause, I was driving flat-out for couple hours on oil that hadn't been changed in 24,000km or the engine head couldn't handle the hard use. I used to think that car was indestructible. Oh well, live and learn.
