Anyone out there know if it's ok to switch over from factory Toyota oil to Mobil 1 with 30K on the odometer? With all my previous vehicles I'd always switched over at 5000 miles or just after break in oil is due for 1st oil change. I have heard or been advised against higher mileage conversion to synthetics because of potential engine seal problems of which I currently do not have any problems with.

Thanks!

30,000 is not high mileage. 30,000 is very low. Go ahead and switch.

high millage is above 120k miles and anymore with the current standards that keeps raising.

I switched my oil to Royal Purple at 35k, no problems. Seal issues come from high mileage due to ware and the general drying out of rubber based seals, so no issues should arise unless the seal is all ready faulty or leaking.

SAve money and run regular motor oil with the recommended change intervals. Your car wont last any longer with synthetic oil. You wont get better mileage (try it and see I did). The engine will last 150,000 miles or more and in fifteen years the rest of the car will be shot and uneconomical/inconvient to fix every three months.

Your wallet will definately be lighter, so theoretically you will go a little faster with the switch.

I switched to Mobile 1 at 30,000 miles because I ran out of free oil changes at the dealership. Been running to 101,000 fine. Not that much money if DIY anyway. $35 vs. $20. Big deal.
