Smelly AC on windshield defrost.

Hey Guys, I seem to have a nasty smell coming out of my vents intermittently when my windshield defroster is on. If I switch it to windshield then turn the heat up it smells bad for a little while. It's a pretty sharp chemical smell. It doesn't last very long.

The a/c seems to work fine, the fan works on all settings and modes, I can't seem to figure out if anything is the problem.

I just installed a new stereo, but I can't figure out how I could have screwed up anything doing that. I checked the AC section of the FSM and I didn't really go near anything important there.

Does the AC come on automatically when the defroster is turned on in the Yaris?

If you do some searching on here for "smell" you will find a ton of threads about the AC stink issue. The AC does come on automatically with the defog mode.

Like Scott said, there's lots of threads about this issue, and even a couple of fixes. I tried one and it worked great.

I did try searching first, but AC Smell didn't find anything.Then I used google and found the threads.

Read through the posts. Read through the TSB. Blew out the house and it was clear, stuck a cablie tie up into the ac and it was bone dry. No backup of messy water thankfully. :iono:

Cabin air filter is pretty dirty, I'm going to change it out.
