As I continue to ponder about my wheel purchase this spring, I worry about the ride comfort of sitting on 215/40/17. I drive quite a bit because I commute to grad school and I substitute teach, is the comfort level of the low profile tire really harsh? I traded my jeep to get my yaris and hated the ride the jeep had, but that was obviously due to the suspension and not tire sidewall (had 30" tires). Could anyone riding on a similar tire give their comments on the quality of the ride after switching? I have the factory 15 steelies as a frame of reference. Thanks for your responses!

It will be harsher, that's for sure.. but not too bad if you keep the stock suspension.
If you're looking for confort 15's are the way to go.

A 205/45/16 will be happy medium.

Also keep in mind wheels weight. A heavy rim will increase your MPG.

You can find a good deal with the site vendors.

Don't matter what you get on 17's the ride is going to ROYALY suck
I am rollin on 225/50VR15's and she rides a bit harsh

You go to 17's you are goin to have a Z or W speed rated tire that is going to be harder, with a lower profile tire, the Jeep with 30's most likly rides better than a Yaris with 17's

thanks for the responses, black yaris, have you noticed loss of mpg with tires that wide? I was planning on getting feathers, so if I went the smaller route 15, the widest wheel i could get is a 6.5. Could I run a tire 225 wide or would i have to do the 205/55 route

I would go 205/55 on the 6.5's.... 225/50 would be way too wide.... 225mm=8.9 in... 205mm=8 in..... to tell you the truth I wish I would have waited for the feathers, in black and I would have ran 205/55VR15 BFG g-force sports... so, my set up might be up for sale in the spring

oh yeah.... no loss of MPG... actually increase due to weight being less

why is that? do you like the look of the feathers better? Or are you not happy with the ride of the 225/50 tires

I just like the look of the black feathers, that's all.... I love how the 225/50's handle though, I let Chino take her out for a drive and he noticed the difference with the 225/50's.... I wish Konig had a nice black wheel like that in a 15x7 or 7.5 so I could retain my 225/50's
