I have seen one or two posts in this forum that have talked about the Yaris having a rev limiter. I have also seen a post on the toyotanation forum concurring that there is a rev limiter (http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/26-yaris-vitz-echo-forum/266527-does-yaris-have-rev-limiter.html). However, I have yet to see in a user's manual or likewise, any conclusive evidence that there is a rev limiter. I'm asking just out of curiosity. Anybody know for sure? I have a 2008 2dr Hatchback 5 Speed MT.

Thanks

Yes there is a rev limiter. The service manual does net explicitly describe it as such, but the Max RPM is listed as 6.600 RPM. Watching peoples' dyno videos or looking at their dyno charts also confirms this.

Put your foot flat on the floor. The rev limiter won't let you overrev the engine.

Yes there is a rev limiter. You can hear mine here very briefly at the 8second mark.

It makes a stuttering noise as the computer takes away ignition timing to prevent the engine RPM from going higher. First and only time I have hit a rev limiter in my life. I'm sure if you go to youtube you will find lots of videos of what it sounds like when people are on it longer.
Cheers.

Most of the dynos of stock or mildly modded yarii show the power dropping off before it hits that mark anyway. seems the peak power tends to be right around 6000 or so.

I realize that the turbo guys and the heavily modded guys are increasing their rev limits to a lot higher but that isn't something I need to worry about for a while (if ever).
