Will this fit a 2009 hatch that doesn't have a tach already equiped?

Yes it will. And, that's a rare find to track down a MPH one with the tach.

that is why i want it. might have to try and get it then. but of course I go to get it and it is sold. :(

The Canadian metric ones are always available and I created a device which will make them show MPH on the larger number outer ring, as well as increment the odometer in miles. I can also reprogram the odometer to match your current mileage. Here's the Metric conversion one that I am running in Crashy2:
