I thought almost all new vehicles ran 5-w30 or there abouts. I have heard to run a thicker oil once the car gets some age on them (150-200k miles). I don't think the summer time changes that. your engine is a lot hotter than ambient and the coolant system does a pretty good job of regulating that temperature.

there again, we have the 1.5 liter so I don't know for sure about the 1.0 liter. I wish we could get that in the states.

i was using total brand, 15-30 oil. but some one told it is too thick for a small engine like mine. in summer it exceed 45 degree in malta , very annoying. so it isn ok to use fully synthethic oil? i wqas using mineral oil.

@ bee, yeah in malta we got small roads so we got very small engines and we got bigger engines too, example my mums yaris got 1.0 3 cylinder engine, and trust me it is more powerful then my 4 cylinder 1.0. one thing is very annoying is that they vibrate alot on idle, and ticking noise from valves. but i like these small demons :)
