I've got a rattle from both the left and right sides of the dash. Definitely interested in any ideas. I've tried to identify the source of the sounds, but not having much luck.

I find that the cup holders rattle if they are left open, so closing them when not in use stops the rattle.

A rattle in the center could be from many things including: The cluster screws not being in place, the ducts to the center vents rattling, radio wiring not properly bloused (particularly if an after market one is installed).

im sorry if im completely out of place here (i drive a 2010 not the fancy dancy 2012) but i fixed most of my dash rattles by putting pressure on it. i stuffed the bottom parts of my A pillars with sponge to compress the dash. worked quite well. i put enough to make it feel solid

Man, that is no joke. As soon as it dips below 30 degrees, the whole car seems to rattle, especially the dash. Got to love the cold.

I think there was a post here on YarisWorld which explained how to remove the "soft touch" material to swap out the audio system. From what I recall, you simply grab the right side of the "soft touch" material and yank it towards yourself to pull it out. That should give you enough space to explore what wires are loose, and where you can add some triple expanding foam from Rona/Home Depot/Lowes.

This may not be the ultimate solution, but the 2012 Yaris could benefit from more sound insulation anyway!

i too have this rattle. it gets worse during cold morning.
I am thinking to put some tape (black electrical) where dash & instrumental cluster meets

at -30*C you need to deal with a frozen clutch too....

I have an annoying rattle the came from the right side of the dash. Turns out it was the cover of the USB port making the noise. Still trying to come up with a cure. The cover might be removed with a pair of scissors.

I am going to have to check out the USB port cover. I know that the right hand side is where the loudest rattles come from but I don't know how such a small, soft cover could be making that much noise. Interested in finding out.

To the OP, it took me a few days but I noticed that the metal on the seat belts were bumping on the side pillars of the doors. If you can tuck them into the seam between the seat and frame tight enough that cures some of the more annoying rattles.

^ The '08 sedan seat belt buckle does same thing . Put some sticky back felt on it . Helps some .

I have a rattle in my 2012 dash as well. Sounds like it's drivers side and closer to the window...

I have a creak noise from silver radio bezel rubbing my dash kit, nothing some felt tape wouldn't cure.

Removing the soft touch dash trim is super easy and gives good access to the whole dash cavity. I looked around mine to see what could be rattling in others' Yarii and can't see any wires or panel intolerances. Very strange, mine is totally rattle free with TRD Sportivo suspension kit and almost 4k miles on her.. I'll look for any recent tsb's at work tomorrow.

I too have a rattle at the right side of the dash. It's a 2007 Yaris. I do not know whether an USB port can be the cause? The problem is that the rattle itself sounds very 'plastic' and it seems to come from somewhere behind the glove compartment? When I am outside of the car I too hear the same noise, but a bit more 'iron'-like ... when checking underneath the bonnet I did not hear anything for about 10 minutes and nothing seems to be loose, worn or broken....? I am a bit confused now ....

Kind regards,
