Shame on me for not posting a build thread here too!

Those black rims are hot, which are they?

Car looks clean, I like everything but the stickers, but that's a personal opinion. I just am not a huge fan of having cuss words splayed over the back window of cars. Just my opinion though, I do really like the car.

Looks REALLY good. Great tire/wheel sizing combination, looks like a slight amount of stretch.

What happened to the gold wheels? Those are some of my favorites ever!

mr_miles
01-16-2013, 01:39 PM
The enkei 92's are 15x8 +25mm offset, with 195/50 series tires :). i got rid of the 522's a long time ago, traded them for the D2's. Now I'm probably trading the d2's this week lol. Maybe for some 0 offset wheels....either way im sure you guys will see them :p

Hokai. Some updates, yo!

here it is all tinted,Right before I bathed her. It's apparently a 38% tint, which according to the tint guys, evens out to about 35 after installation (because of the slight tint yaris windows apparently have), so i'm at the legal limit in Oregon. They used some sort of "carbon series" tint, which apparently good. LOL BEATS ME I DUN NO NUTHIN BOUT NO TINT. *I went with this shop as he was a childhood friend of one of my good friends, got a discount, lifetime warranty, and they'll change it to whatever I want if i ask*

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/vash_the_stamepede/20130115_112503_zps8b1e58bd.jpg
Oh look, you can see the D2's inside. Was going to trade them but the guy lied about the condition of his wheels, so NO GO.

A shot of the vinyl work. Absolutely craptacular. The vinyl ripped and stretched way to easy when I applied any heat. Fortunately, this was bought solely to test wrapping awkward pieces like that, so it's 3 dollars not particularly wasted. For some reason I couldn't get the wrinkles out of the folded over edges. any pros with suggestions on how to do it? I've always wrapped large flat pieces, or small simple things. any help on folding corners and stuff is appreciated!

overall I'm surprisingly pleased with how the TI-C sounds. it's not loud at all. at an idle it's very smooth. sounds a little ballsy when I step on it, but not ricey or fart-canish at all! The video's make it sound borderline aggravating, but IMO it sounds nothing at all like it does on youtube.

mr_miles

the carbon fiber that's on the dash is the stuff that I wrapped :p Going to be re-doing it soon, lol. It's crappy.

Currently the silencer is out, but in the pictures and my first impressions like in that post are with the silencer in. I like it both ways, so I figure I'll roll with it out for a few until I get tired of the noise, then put it back in. Even with the silencer out, it's not terrible. it drones a little bit at say 1900 rpm, but that it. I LOVE the idle sound it has without it, too. I'll try and record it.

i was wondering how you were able to stick the cf wrap onto that portion of the dash, considering the surface has all those little dots which would make it harder to stick.

I'm definetly digging those eyelids, did you costum make them or bought them somewhere ?

the vinyl I had held to it pretty well, actually. I wasn't expecting to to do so, but it's pretty well on there.I'm redo-ing it soon, got some more vinyl in. also, my shock warranty came back, so yay I can put my car back where it usually rides.

Weee I did stuff. - 3 degree spacers? oh hell yes.

I like this pic because it makes it look like only one wheel is cambered.

This is my current ride height until summer - THEN LOWER. I think overall, the MI underpanel and sub frame are about 2 inches off the ground. I'll measure tomorrow if it's not raining because we all need an accurate measurement.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/vash_the_stamepede/20130205_171715_zpsddff5ec9.jpg

I put my second warranty shock back in, so I'm finally rollin proper now. Feels good, man. Other than that, haven't messed with too much lately - been working on that carbon fiber vinyl for fun, i've got a few pieces up here in my desk. I'm extending the dimmer switch wires so i can put it down in the center console with the traction control button, and i replaced the OEM bluetooth mic with my aftermarket one inside the dash so I could use it with my Kenwood. I've also got all 4 speaker adapter plates sitting on my desk, and hopefully will be taking my front bumper off to install my horn. Will also attempt removing the headliner and installing the sticker bombed bazooka sub and 5 panel wink mirror.

I will say - I'm extremely pleased with the product, but the guy was interesting to deal with. extremely lazy. 1.5 and I had to send him multiple emails to get him to ship in a timely manner......but.....great product lol. mr_miles
02-23-2013, 08:34 PM
Since hangrings are all the same length, and for the most part, tow hooks are usually attached to chassis... so the closer the ring was to the ground meant your car was lowered by x amount. its more of a measurement for how low your whip is :) the lower your car is, the cooler you are!

That you are able to get that level of sheen and clarity out of a black paint job (see link from coheed's post) on our relatively inexpensive model is impressive -- you obviously take great care of it (and your 'first born' Yaris). It reminds me of some of the pictures Mazilla has posted of his black Yaris on the forum.

10/8 it is....

I have 8k front, and when i get in the car it sinks a few inches. I'm tempted to get 14k front to see if that is stiff enough.

Now I am not a small person, and so if you are a normal sized person it won't effect you too much.

Why thank you! I get down right OCD when I clean my car. I have this idea in my mind that if I treat my car like it costs some insane amount of money, it will treat me right. at least once weekly washes, twice yearly waxes with clay bar or more if needed, and I clean the interior almost nonstop lol. I've always detailed my cars. even crappy ones. I just can't handle messy vehicular devices. And it's kind of my personal therapy. I'll clean a car all day for no damn reason at all.

Steve - I want the high spring rates solely for the purpose of running extremely tight clearances. ride comfort doesn't bother me to terribly much.

Stealth photo - went to a car meet and only took one pic. we left super quick - still not sure why.

I don't mind that so long as you're able to do so without gettin' crumblydumps all over the place. only one of my friends is banned from eating in my car so far, but that's because he managed to get mustard on my headliner of the white gnar. :p

No, it's just plain glossy black vinyl. I got lucky in the color, actually. If you look at them close you can see that they don't quite match - but I figured glossy black would be the closest thing I could find so I just went with it.

I'm thinking of doing the b-pillars and the side mirror mounts / triangle plastic pieces on the front of the door, but we'll see. Gotta figure out how to get all those pieces off, first...

also - copy pasta from MI

With each piece I get slightly better at doing it. Now I'm able to do weird shaped pieces much easier. I will leave the two blank spots covered until I put something there. (like fog lights!)

Rolled the rear fenders today, and removed the collars. Looks much better me thinks. all these pics are right after messing with the front so it needs to settle. :p I'll snap better pics tomorrow of the entire car. I was hungry.

They're "Esuse" which is apparently a fairly well established aftermarket company.

They feel pretty decent, but I'll be able to give a better review once they're on the car. they come with the wiring harness, but we have it built in on the third gens, so I have to decide how to wire them. I think I'm going to attempt wiring them with the factory harness to keep it clean. I think I know what needs to be done, but I may have to ask CTScott for one little part though. But I know how much he hates fogs :p

The megan muffler will look better if you take an inch or so out of the hangers, or maybe take the rubber attachments out and wire it into place, that might both raise it up and keep away from the suspension.

Kind of weird that it hits, I had the same problem. That said, it sounds good. Very quiet at low RPM but has a nice bark when you put your foot in it.

Once it gets nice I should come out and we should roll some fenders. It was good hanging with you when we put the wheels on my car.

Good to know. My new neighbors have a final generation Mazda RX-7 convertible with a dual aftermarket exhaust (they also have a Mitsubishi SUV and each drive both). When he or she starts the RX-7 up in the morning in the dark.....OMG, that thing is loud. Makes me wonder how many of my neighbors are awakened by the noise (very few lights on when I peer out an upstairs window). I plan to get an aftermarket exhaust on my next Yaris, and I don't want to do that to my neighbors (I think it is inconsiderate).

Yes and no, lol. I'm fortunate enough that where I live is relatively flat, and the roads are pretty well maintained, with typical level-ish entrances. lately, there have been some projects around that are causing dozens of dump trucks loaded with rock to go on my route to work, causing me to occasionally have to maneuver around rocks that are dangerous to me. Today I hit one and drug it for a good 1k feet :/ Driving a low car you care about is a labor of love. there are some places however I just don't go in my car anymore(like anywhere with a speedbump). "I'm thinking of doing the b-pillars and the side mirror mounts / triangle plastic pieces on the front of the door, but we'll see. Gotta figure out how to get all those pieces off, first..."

Okay, just so you know the 3rd gen has airbags located behinds these trim pieces. It would not be advisable to wrap them in anything. If you do and are in a crash and the airbags go off the trim is designed to split apart. If it did not do this you now have a rather large piece of plastic moving at you upper body and head at a very high rate of speed. If you still want to wrap them and don't mind not having the air bags you can disable them but you might want to have that done at a shop. I am unsure on what would be needed to be done so they don't set them self's off as you take them out.

My opinion mind you but I would not want to see anyone getting hurt.

Hard to tell the overall look without seeing it in person, but I have a friend in California who has a black 7 Series BMW with matte finish wheels that are sort of a whitish silver and the interior is solid/mono black leather with a wood steering wheel (similar tone to yours). For the most part. My cold start still fluctuates between 2000 to 2300 depending on outside temperature and drops down within 30 seconds, and my hot idle is 600 on the dot, so I'm fairly pleased. Really not feeling the silver 2.5 quick release. Ordered a black one, but it was ebay, so we all know how that goes. Really didn't want to deal with sending it back and waiting, etc etc. more hassle than it's worth. Either going to trade it for a black one to someone local, or paint it (body paint match, maybe?) But other than that, I'm happy with it. Gotta follow bzinn's thread on how to get the horn and everything to work, and figure out how to get the blinker to go back to it's neutral state, but that shouldn't be too difficult. I'm totally going to find a way to make the OEM cruise control work, too.

I was hoping by some super lucky chance, they would have the black or dark grey versions in stock on the sale, but all they had was unfinished. I'm not a huge fan of silver / chrome / brushed metal look for wheels, so I may get them powder coated before I get tires. Just got to think of a color if I go that route!

Powder coating them another color would look good as well. I just wouldn't powder coat them black. Looks better with a color that provides contrast (IMO).

Yeah, there's something about black and red together. Re Yari, makes me think about that black and red 3rd Gen 3-Door pulling the black and red trailer in the Home Depot (?) lot -- (padre1964 ?).

I really have to hand it to you, mazilla, mr.miles, etc. I had one black car for 90k + miles, and I don't think I'd want to do again what it entails to keep a black car looking good. The effort is worth it though.....the TLC shows (IMO more than with other colors).

I know Motegi, Konig and XXR wheels have the red trim your looking for but as you had said it may or may not fit the stock tires. JUST keep in mind that when your wheels get dirty you'll notice it quickly cause the dirt can settle in the red area. I seen a set of Black/Red Motegi wheels. It made me rethink a lot of my wheel choices.

Engine side, I have.....
micro image intake manifold
1zz throttle body
lightweight pulleys
AFE short ram intake
Megan racing exhaust header
OBX midpipe (yet to install)
Megan racing axle back

I think that's all for anything that would increase / free up power. I also have the full short shift kit, the micro image underpanel, and a Ultra racing front strut tower bar :D

Cruise control: some people are lazy. Like me. Some people also have aftermarket steering wheels so cruise control doesn't work. Like me. But we all know I don't take "Doesn't work" for an answer. lol.

Plastic steering column shroud? DON'T NEED THAT. I screwed the CC into where the shroud screws in for now. I'll modify the column shroud later so that both it and the cc can be used, there seems to be enough space on the bottom right hand side of it for it to fit. I then zip tied the lower portion to hold it still. <3 zip ties.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/vash_the_stamepede/20130801_124735_zpsdd8ca4d0.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/vash_the_stamepede/media/20130801_124735_zpsdd8ca4d0.jpg.html)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/vash_the_stamepede/20130801_124746_zps33eae4d8.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/vash_the_stamepede/media/20130801_124746_zps33eae4d8.jpg.html)

Onto the wiring! There's two plugs that go into the Clockspring from the column: a yellow plug for the airbag, and a black plug, which has the CC, the horn, and the audio controls. Unfortunately it differs from the second gen (according to the walkthrough I found for DIY cruise control, since none of it was the same for me) so I ended up just cutting the entire black plug because I don't have the audio controls, never will. And I can rewire a horn any day, being that it's one wire. so CHOP it goes..I accidentally ripped the horn wire instead of cutting it.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/vash_the_stamepede/20130801_123509_zpsc338a4b7.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/vash_the_stamepede/media/20130801_123509_zpsc338a4b7.jpg.html)

so, since i had no idea at first which wire was what, I started just putting wires into the CC. I removed the plug from the end of the CC wiring harness to get the metal plugs to be exposed, as my first plan was to just plug them into the clockspring harness. that idea failed. Oh well. I started with a blue wire that had a single piece of wire inside. seemed to make sense to me. tried all the other ones, then all of a sudden.....HONK HONNNNK. turns out the thickest wire in there is the horn! I made the cruise control power button a horn. I laughed. I'll just move that wire up out of the way for now. (before all this I found a plug with three wires, and tried that, by pushing the metal ends into it. I found the wiper washer harness. CC sprayed my window. lol. It's not pictured)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/vash_the_stamepede/20130801_123410_zps26aa0092.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/vash_the_stamepede/media/20130801_123410_zps26aa0092.jpg.html)

So, I kept playing around with the wires. dark bown, and light brown / tan are the correct wires. Dark brown goes to red on CC, tan to Black.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/vash_the_stamepede/20130801_123558_zps244632a3.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/vash_the_stamepede/media/20130801_123558_zps244632a3.jpg.html)

Yay! CC light came on! time to test! slap the steering wheel back on and off I go! It works. after that all I did was clean up the wiring mess and tuck it up all nice and neat. it's not in the exact spot it would be if it was factory, but it's still reachable by your right hand without removing it from the wheel. turned out to be a mini DIY instead of just pics of what I did :p

Edit: this is why the CC is all I got done. was spraying my old car with my friend. looks much better this color.

copy pasta from MI :p

so lets say I put the car on jack stands. I dislike how I was not able to do that, as they're at a friends house.....but that's neither here nor there now :p

Step one: Drain oil. I'll pull the filter off later.

Step two: start removing oil pan bolts. Easy enough, except for one stud (there are two studs with nuts on them, I'm assuming for "make this job easier" when you put a new pan on. that stud had hit the center divider and bent. pulled the whole stud out, replaced with bolt.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/vash_the_stamepede/20130829_142925_zps7d21efb1.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/vash_the_stamepede/media/20130829_142925_zps7d21efb1.jpg.html)

start moving around to the other bolts, easy easy easy....until these two.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/vash_the_stamepede/20130829_112640_zpscbbc7a0a.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/vash_the_stamepede/media/20130829_112640_zpscbbc7a0a.jpg.html)

Doesn't look so bad...right? How about this angle.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/vash_the_stamepede/20130829_112636_zps2894a284.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/vash_the_stamepede/media/20130829_112636_zps2894a284.jpg.html)

Hmm......Cant get a wrench on it. cant get a socket on it. it's steel, so I cant force the socket on to bend it. My best decided course of action is to try and bend the lip of the pan and then get a wrench on the end. about two hours of that and I gave up on that idea - working upside down on the ground slows me down, okay?!

Hammer mode = engaged. if i cant get a wrench on it the only way to do it is to bend the pan back. All I had was a regular nail hammer, way to light. Luckily I was given a gift card to NAPA, so I ran down there and picked up a 2.5 pound sledge, and some gasket maker while I was there in case I couldn't find my tube I already had.

THOR MODE ENGAGED. Even the almighty hammer of THOR is no match for this dreadful oil pan. I ponder what to do momentarily. tried using a drift to no avail as well. Ponder more.

Drill time. went out on a limb and drilled a few holes around the area that was folded over the bolts to weaken it, still wasnt working to well, tried pliers, more drifts and more Thor, but wasn't working. ended up damaging the bolts so I backed off.

Last ditch effort - bend the entire pan around the bolts. slowly I start pulling on the pan after draining the remaining oil. lucky me, it started bending exactly where I had hoped! In case anyone is wondering why I would do that, if you bend metal back and forth enough it'll crack and tear.

few minutes of that and I heard a scary *POP*. one of the bolt holes an the pan ripped! YAY. then it was easy from there. just spun it to get the last one off. Everything up in the engine looks great. the oil pickup tube didn't get touched. Dry it all off, and put some RTV on the new pan. slapped that beauty back on and tomorrow after it's dry i'll fill it up with oil!

225 50 15. Somehow, this will fit. Somehow. Couldn't do the valve stems on the inside. no matter where I put them they hit something. Sad day lol. These would have been done a while ago but I was trying to paint them when I painted the Z. But the Z is still just primer haha.

I've also been working on both of my friends S2000's, did a complete bushing install on one, and the other one suddenly got a bad knock from a connecting rod bearing and had copper in the oil pan. so unfortunately both of my projects are on hold. which is upsetting as I'm trying to get the Z's bushings done so I can garage Gnar for winter. lol. Poor Z needs her bushings bad.

figured I'd work on the exhaust a little before work, as I got the OBX setup. turns out the flange on the end of the midpipe is rotated 45 degrees so you HAVE to use the OBX muffler with it. Well I refuse. lol. I like my megan. So I put the stock midpipe back in, and I will go to a exhaust shop and have them rotate that flange, and do any more required work to make it fit right. I want stainless steel all the way, but I want it my way :p I also screwed up my donut gasket on the header (also megan) trying to get it to fit, lol. this is gunna' be a pain.

So slow season at work never started. It's finally now just "slowing" down....I've been working overtime since well...since I stopped updating this. Yaris work has been....slow. Haven't put the exhaust on yet because the mid pipe doesn't fit. It's not bent right. and OBX wouldn't respond to calls or emails regarding the issue. >:( So I have a useless exhaust sitting in my garage. Going to have to bring it to a shop and have them hack it up to make it fit, but finding a shop that will mess with catalytic converter free exhaust is not easy, because they can lose their jobs, etc. List of things to do:
Put rotiforms back on for summer
get exhaust done
finish re-installing interior
get window tint fixed
have fun and take pictures

So hopefully I'll update more frequently. I miss playing with that car.

Take off the interior panel on the decklid, and there's 4 or 5 nuts you take off and it pops right out :D
