Specs:
Klipsch quintet speakers
Yamaha rx-v473 receiver
52" Samsung LCD tv
Cable box
PS3
Trying to figure out why I do not get audio from ps3. Receiver has only one outlet (hdmi)
Cable box>receiver>Tv
Ps3>receiver>TV
The Tv works on hdmi input one for receiver, the PS3 is input 2. The tv has picture and sound. The ps3 only has picture. I've tried everything except switching or adding wires.
I'm stumped. All suggestions welcome.

Check the audio settings (via the setup menu on the PS3) to make sure that the audio output is set the the HDMI, rather than the digital optical output.

Yup, even went through manual audio setup on the ps3, added 5.1 dolby and 5.1 digital (it already auto selects 2.1 @44khz and 48 khz).
Still no luck.
I'm almost to the point of pulling the receiver out and swapping hdmi cables form input to input and see what happens.
I've read people having mixed luck with adding a fiber optic audio cable but that limits the audio to IIRC, 2.1 only or 5.1 compressed.
I hope this doesn't turn out to be a matter of turning components on in a certain order.

That's odd, I have a Pioneer receiver, 1 HDMI in, 4 out, all pushed to a projector, and no problems here. I'll double check what my PS3 settings are when I get home and post up what works for me.

is it a pass-thru issue possibly?

Stupid question in response to fnk, but aside from having an option to turn on/off pass thru is there a way to tell?

^ not a stupid question these days with all of the subsets of instructions that could be coded depending up certain settings.
I have had a receiver in the past where when I chose "Music" it gave me stock EQ settings that I preferred, but it also wouldn't work with the RCA input on the damned thing...only the Portable headphone jack input.
Are you using a remote like a universal or Harmony by chance?

Nope just stock remotes.....
I figured out the problem....I'm not kicking myself too hard as this is my first major (to me) setup......I never put the hdmi cable for the ps3 back into the receiver. It was still going ps3 to tv......lol all is working as it should.....
Thanks for all the help/suggestions!

I kind of just am taking it as a learning experience, but yeah I felt really stupid at first but it was past my bedtime and flat out I just wasnt thinking. I had everything hooked up, took it apart to install speaker wires, then somehow put the hdmi back into the tv...

So, now that you have it working, do you have GT5? We really have to get a group back racing Yaris on it.

I've been looking at getting it, degree of customization and detail is amazing. Friend of mine has it

The best advice I can give is at the least invest in cheap labels and label each end of your cords to include power cords. It can make a world of difference.

I'm lazy about labels, so I hit up monoprice.com and ordered 5 different colored 3' HDMI cables. Now I just look at the back and know what color corresponds to which device. At about $20-30 for the set, I was pleased

Could use masking tape for labeling .
