hello there. i got 1.0 automatic 16 valve vitz 4 cylinder. im expercience noise....that i think that is from the tappets or valves... heres my story...when my engine is cold, no valve noise at all!! but when the engine is warmed up, it begins to go tik tik tik tik....at idle, but smooth on driving. i know that it will be an expensive cost to replace the valves .....all i need to ask is, can i use any oil that reduce this tapping noise pls?

just to mention, the noise is similar to diesel engines...i really hate that noise.
Are you sure it's not an idle issue? Mine starts doing it when it falls below 500 rpm for about 2 seconds but then it automatically revs back up. When it's cold, everything is fine. My mechanic said it's normal.

heh, i had an idle issue last summer, got 6 months of hell trying to find out, at last i found it was the idle air control valve....270 euros. not funny. no idle now is good. 750 idle to 650.....normal temp. but tickin noise starts after when normal temp is on. on cold strat never.

I think you might just be hearing the regular valve noise. we have hydraulic valves so they tend to make noise no matter what. you dont hear it on cold start up because its rpm's are up just enough so it cant be heard.

so is this the rattling sound i occasionally hear when just after it shifts and the rpms are low?

A mechanic needs to check it, if you swallow a valve it's a pretty bad thing. The noise could be perfectly normal, but someone with experience needs to evaluate it.
