Hello All!

Im new to this forum and would like to say hello to all my fellow Yaris owners!

Well first off I have a 07 Yaris Sedan with AT. I recently plowed into a snow bank, not very surprising since Im in alaska.

Anyways, Ever since the "incident" it is hard to shift from Park to Drive, the transmission is fine but the shift lever inside my car is hard to move. My car also no longer recognizes that it is in Park and does not turn on the "P" light or lock the front tires, ie Engange Park.

Where should I start in diagnosing the problem?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

There is a 9 pin grey connector on the top of AT, which provides the shift position indication to the ECM (who actually controls the transmission). I would check to make sure that the connector didn't get damaged.

Check the cable and brackets on the front of the transmission. If you have someone move the shifter in the car, you will see it moving and pulling a lever. I would guess either the cable bracket or the lever the cable moves is bent.

Do I need to get my car into the air to see the cables and levers? Also is it on the driver or passenger side?

You can get at them better from above. They are both on the front driver's side, but the air intake and battery make it a bit difficult to see them. In the picture below you can see the shift linkage and the grey connector above it.

To use the picture that the ever helpful CTScott posted. Most likely the cable or lever is bent. Check all the things the arrows point to.
Could also be ice or rocks stuck in there too.
