Hi all, just wanted to share my findings on some sunglasses.
They are the Big5 specials for $55. I've seen there sales for years, but never really needed shades. Since I bought the Yaris, with it's longer windscreen, lately I've been really hating driving into the sun. So I thought I'd try some of the Big5 shades.
These sunglasses are Serengeti Modesto's, from what I could find on line they are new old stock, as in model 2008~09 versions. Maybe this is why they can sell them so cheap, without flak from Serengeti.
Anyway this morning I was driving into the sun(with out the visor), with little to no discomfort. They work really well and seem to be well made with a good fit.
Also, they are selling a few different models at this price, but only the Modesto model is Polarized.
Sale end on the 3rd, but these go on sale every month or so. Sometimes there as low as $44.99. but mostly in the $55.~$60. range.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to check them out the next time I'm in the Bay Area. We have 9 Big 5 locations in Texas, but the closest one to me is well over 200 miles away in Stephensville (halfway between Fort Worth and Abeline, through College Station, Waco, etc.).

UPDATE! I talked with Serengeti about these shades. I called them because I cant find any info about this model on line, other than big 5 ads.
So the guy told me these Modesto shades are made special for stores like Costco, Sam's and big 5. He also told me the model I have(7810) are a newer 2012 design, with PolarMax Plus Drivers lenses. Not only are they auto darkening, but there also Polarized.
This made sense, as I was in a different big 5 and noticed a pair of Modesto's with a slightly different lens color. This is what made me look into if big 5 was selling fakes.
They are not fake, in fact they are state of the art. Turns out that big 5 has sold the Modesto model for years, but the model number does change every couple of years(along with the technology). Old model is 6xxx, newer model is 7810.

Polarized lenses are the best. I need a pair of brown polarized sunglasses, got a pair of smoke gray polarized sunglasses.

Ya, I've seen the brown, green and grey. I'm not sure what is better?
These Serengeti Modesto's are brown/gold in color. I find myself using them most of the day.
I went to a few different Costco's, as to see what they've got. They have Serengeti, Maui Jim and a couple of other's. None of them fit me as well as the S modesto's, so I went by a big 5 and bought a second pair.

 I just got a pair of Foster Grants - 'Ironman ' - for $15 plus tax at Wal-Mart. I got the last pair from a previous batch (I could tell because the tag was different). I compared this one pair to all the ones in the new batch, and they made the lens a little thinner with the new batch .
I have a very sturdy pair of Faconable that I got at Nordstrom for about $80.00 in the early to mid 2000s. I misplaced them and found them again in 2011. I checked at Nordstrom that year to see if they were still selling them. They were, and the price was only a bit under $200.00. I've dropped them so many times (scratching the lenses) that I only use them as a backup now....and I refuse to pay the inflated price to get another pair. I bought two pairs of 'NYC Collection' sunglasses at a booth at a local mall for $15.00 total , but the earpiece on one of the pairs broke when in a front pants pocket. I'm looking forward to wearing the Foster Grants, but will still probably also get the ones UberSilver got at Big 5 (if I like how they fit) on my next visit to California.
