Trunk/hatch open/close problem

New to the forum so I really hope I put this in the right sections, if not please forgive me!

My 2007 Hatchback Yaris recently has been having this strange trunk/hatch problem.
When I close it, it stays closed very tight! But for some reason the 'a door is open' light is always on.
Also the light inside the car to the side of the trunk stays on (The light that turns on when you open the trunk).
This prevents me from locking any of the doors (I have electric door locks).
The trunk does stick out an inch more ever since this has started which I'm sure is what's causing this. I'm not sure why or how this happened, has anyone experienced this before? I'm supposed to be going on a road trip next week from the Los Angeles area to Nashville TN on Sunday. First problem with the Yaris, hoping for an easy/inexpensive fix!

It sounds like the catch for the latch is out of position. Open the hatch and check the loop that the hatch locks onto to make sure it isn't loose. Also, check the latch itself, on the center of the bottom of the hatch, to make sure its bolts haven't loosened as well.
