Is it ok to use 10w30 instead of 5w30

Live in california, am I correct to think it won't matter using 10w30 over 5w30. 2007 Yaris, the manual says to use 5w30 but if it's not available 10w30 can be used.

If it's warmer than 65*F in the mornings, then it's no problem. If it's 45*~60*f, then give it 5~7 minutes to warm up (before any load is applied).

If you do what the owners manual says then you are dealing with the people who know the most about your car and have the most interest in your satisfaction with it.

I THINK the manual says 1030 can be used but 530 is prefered. (I have a lot of manuals!)

I interpret that to mean 1030 is OK but for long term use 530 is what you want.

I have done just what the manual says. Once in a while 1030 is all I can get (on sale) so I use it but 90% of the time 530 is in there.

it's just a little thicker oil during startup, that's all. The 10 verses the 5 value. once your warm up and going it's the same. I think it only matters in places where it's freezing weather for long consecutive days. in california you should be fine. My vw beetles call for 5w30 also but I use 10w30 during the summer, been doing that for years and now have 189k miles on the little bug.:thumbsup:

honestly, it all depends on ur areas...some might need 0w-30, some might 5w-30, some might need 10w-30 and some might need 0w-20 and 5w-20...it all depends ur area and what ur service manual is asking...but as far as i know...5w-30 is perferable and 10w-30 can be use as well but not by the long run
