Does anybody know what the part number is for the drivers side axle oil seal on an 08 yaris sedan is? I can't seem to find anything online and my local dealer is not being very helpful. Thanks in advance. This forum is awesome.

Hmm...the only thing I see on there is an output shaft seal. Don't think that's what I'm looking for.

This is what they list for the Manual Tranny that they carry:

2008 : TOYOTA : YARIS : 1.5L L4 : Transmission-Manual

Clutch Hydraulic Hose
Clutch Kit
Clutch Master Cylinder
Clutch Release Bearing
Clutch Slave Cylinder
Input Shaft Repair Sleeve
Input Shaft Seal
Output Shaft Repair Sleeve
Output Shaft Seal
Shift Shaft Seal
Transmission Mount

Can you further identify what part you have to replace or that is non-funtional? Mayhaps even a photo or two?

For OEM parts, TRDSparks.com or Toyotapartszone.com are the two I use.

Thank you Scott. Toyotapartszone had exactly what I was looking for.

So I ordered the left seal for the manual trans with the number above and after tearing my car apart it isn't even close to what I jeeded . what gives?

The part you received is the actual axle seal, which keeps the fluid in. The outer part in your picture is the "dust cover" and is: 41336-12010

Ok, so how do I go about removing the dust cover without damaging it? There doesn't seem to be anything in the service manual about it.

That is a very good question. I think a seal puller would be the right tool. I had a damaged one that I had to replace (and didn't have a set of seal pullers) and I completely chewed it up trying to get the bad one out.

All I have is a slide hammer and an old Mac seal puller. I wonder if pulling the inner seal and the dust cover as one unit would work. I just don't want to mangle that dust cover and have to wait for another part to come in.

OK, now this is starting to get frustrating. The only thing that is in that hole is what you call a dust cover
http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/yy248/kc0rpm/IMG_20130408_112652_zps8b270b5c.jpg
This little seal that I have doesn't appear anywhere. What gives?

kc0rpm

Ok, so from what I can figure out the dust cover is actually part of the axle, not attached to the transmission. What I pulled out is the actual oil seal so the part that I have is not what I needed. Im not sure where it goes but I'm guessing that its either the input shaft or output shaft which is not what I am looking for so i guess its another trip to the dealer and wait another day for the correct part. Will post correct part number when I figure it out.

It has been over 3 years since I did mine, and it was on an automatic. I am going by the electronic parts catalog. Here are the diagrams that I got the part numbers from:

Here is one other possibility for those seals. The kit of seals in the bottom part of this image is 04331-52520 (Gasket kit, transaxle overhaul, MTM)

Now I just have to figure out how to drive that seal in with out damaging it. The lip sticking out of it makes it impossible with my standard seal drivers.

Toyota makes a SST (09309-37010) for installing them. I machined a chunk of Oak to insert mine.

That's interesting. That part number shows in the EPC as only being for the Scion xB.

Hmm... Well we found it on the epc. Took a lot of digging though and it is most certainly the right part. It matches up exactly with what I pulled.

OK, looks can be deceiving. I am inclined to believe that you are correct and that part number is for an Xb as it is at least half an inch too small in diameter.

It's absolutely amazing that finding a simple part could be so hard.

Does this look correct for the measurements?
Shaft Size: 1.378 in. (35 mm.)
Housing Bore: 2.48 in. (63 mm.)
Outside Diameter: 2.491 in. (63.28 mm.)
Width: 0.394 in. (10 mm.)

Yeah, no kidding. I was forced to put the old seal back in as I have to have the car back on the road. I'm just hoping it doesn't leak too bad as putting that old seal back in is probably the worst option. On another note I do have to say that royal purple gear oil is like night and day compared to the cheap stuff.

Well after another trip to the dealer we shall see what we receive tomorrow. Hopefully it is the right part as I about at my wits end with this seal but now I don't have a choice but to replace it. Stupid car repairs are never as simple as they should be.

This is definitely my kind of thread (same problem I am having with needing to replace it)

Are you leaking oil much? I loose nearly quart in 6 months!. Iv just been keeping an eye on it and refilling. How easy is it to DIY? Read through thread that i need to have some tools tho...

The part number you need is 90311-34042 for the left and 90311-34023 for the right Ishino makes it, it should be available at any local parts store not just the dealer. If you still cant get it let me know I have 5 in stock they are about 5 dollars each. (happen to work at a transmission shop)

I wasn't leaking a lot but I hate leaks and got tired of seeing it every time I changed the oil and inspected the CV boots.

As for diy its not too terribly difficult but a couple of specialty tools are nice and one may be absolutely necessary. A slide hammer is one of the tools that makes the job a lot easier for both removing the axle and removing the seal. The tool that I found I couldn't do the job without was a ball joint seperator such as this http://www.harborfreight.com/automotive-motorcycle/steering/3-4-quarter-inch-forged-ball-point-joint-separator-99849.html. A simple pickle fork will only destroy the boot and there is not enough clearance between the ball joint and axle for anything else. I tried a similar tool to the harbor freight that I found at a parts store but it wouldn't fit between the bolt and axle.

Oh yeah, a 19mm crows foot. Can't torque the ball joint without one. I found that mine had dissapeared and had to borrow one from the neighbor

And as for parts stores having that seal, I can't even get a damn axle nut outside the dealer. My local parts stores carry nothing for the yaris except plugs, filters, and a special order axle. That's about it.

Dang forgot its different for other people who don't live in the bay area. Where I live theres probably about 35 part stores within a 20 mile radius. If you go to the dealer with the part numbers i listed then they should be able to get you the right part then no problem. Otherwise if you want to paypal me 5 bucks I can put one in a envelope with a stamp on it and send it your way.

From the EPC, I never would have guessed that 90311-34042 was that seal. 90311-34023 does make sense from the diagram though.

Sorry if it's bad manners to resurrect a 2-year-old post. I'm a complete car novice, and a friend of mine is going to help me with a few repairs recommended by a local shop. I was told one of my output shaft seals is leaking. Should I get the parts mentioned by YarisSedan (90311-34042 for the left and 90311-34023 for the right)? I got a bit confused by the discussion about the dust cover versus the actual seal. Do I need to get both?

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi everyone,

My output shaft seal from passenger side (right) is leaking.
I bought new 75W90 (2L of motul motylgear) for repair and I have to buy parts to fix this but i'm a bit confused I know that I have to buy the 90311-34023 (90311-W0003 for Toyota's stores in France).

What about the dust cover which is 41336D ? Do I have to buy a new one or it won't be necessary to replace it ?

The Output shaft seal is 43410M :)
