View Full Version : Prius C sheetmetal swap?

I like the lower hood line of the Prius C.

Since the Prius C is a Yaris based car, can the swoopier front end be swapped over to our cars (hatch or sedan)?

It may be swappable with a 3rd Gen Yaris, as they theoretically are built on the same platform, but definitely not on a second gen (based on seeing some stripped chassis pictures from a 3rd gen Japanese race car build).

Great question, but yes, only onto a 3rd gen Yaris, and I haven't seen a C next to a 3rd gen Yaris yet. Would be REALLY cool to line the two models up and compare.

The door panels, which line up with the fenders, which line up with the hood, are all different from the 2nd gen for sure.

Bumper too -- very expensive project, and then you're still left with the old rear end!

Edit - lol I was looking at a different Prius. I was wondering why it didn't look quite right. I bet if you got fenders, hood, bumper, cowel + wiper assembly, it would be damned close!

i did a comparison shot when the prius c first set foot in japan. The rake is a little different, and you need to cut some of the fender where it meets the A pillar. everything else is pretty close. basically a little metal work needed for the 3rd gen.

that would be quite an interesting combo. prius c front with yaris rear.

That would be a pretty neat idea. Was kind of curious to see what it would look like so I did a quick cut&paste. Just waiting for someone to do it for real.

If my front sheetmetal gets damaged, I think I may attempt the swap.

Anybody have the info on how close Prius C hood mounting points are to matching a yaris sedan? ...or maybe hood hinge to body mounting points?

I'm guessing fenders will need to be modded to match up to the sedan doors/ a pillar. I can deal with that if the functional parts are close (hood bolting on and latching, headlights mounted, bumper cover mounted).

The blunt nose on my Yaris has never given me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Hood on the C is longer than the sedan (so I think the latch is more forward by a couple of inches on the C). Comparing it to the sedan, the hood would have to be extended to the Toyota emblem, and you'll have the C hood. But overall front clip is about the same as the sedan. Our garage is very tight, and I use my side mirrors and line it up to a specific thing in the garage to guide how much space I have have left in front of my car so that I don't hit our stuff. We had to put my bro's C in the garage over night, and it ended up being the same.

I found something online that said the bumper reinforcement piece was the same between the prius c and the yaris

I think the C uses a Yaris platform/chassis. It'll be little things like the hood latch placement that will be different.

Compared to:

My sedan is longer than the C, but that's because of the trunk.

But yeah, as others have said, it's more of the 3rd gen LB chassis.

It is a Yaris HB, but 3rd gen.

Doesn't look half bad. But the part I like most from the C is the back end which would be impossible :(
