10" Type R in TCAB - Freq response - vid

Something that has been requested is for a vid showcasing the frequency response of one of the setups... they are proven to get LOUD, but what about the frequency response, your typically peaky/loud setup?

Well, here is a vid showing the frequency response of an alpine type R 10" woofer in a 2007 toyota yaris LB in a typical TCAB Classic design enclosure.

Power is from a cadence z8000 amp - but of course the test was done at low volume.

The mic was on my lap in the drivers seat, facing toward the front of the car. This placement was easy to film

The response is very satisfactory - although the type R isn't the "tightest" sounding woofer, the response of the box makes it an awesome rap/etc setup.

The lower the subs are cutoff, the better... so long as the midbass can keep up. With stronger midbass, I'd like to cutoff below 50hz, at that point the bass entirely feels like its coming from the front, at least to my ears.

Right now the deck xover is set to 60hz (as can be seen by the slow roloff) and the amp xover is set to 75/80hz... it shapes the xover well for my particular uses.

That being said, my midbass (stock - lol) can't keep up... its just that I prefer the sound of a low x'd over sub... this is another reason why I like the type R - it doesn't offer much beyond 50hz (as can be seen by the slight dip in the graph). I design to compensate as much as possible for the R's shortcomings, but it is what it is.

As I've experienced before, the 10" R exhibits a big fat impedence rise and is tough to get power to. I'll have some more test data (actual power, actual impedence) soon... along with a comparison to a sealed box, and a prefab ported box.
