While my turbo build is being completed I figured I might as well upgrade my suspension. I have narrowed my choices down to Megan, Tein, or Tanabe Sustec Pro.

Help me pick one, did a lot of searching and still cant decide. I wont be tracking it but there might be some on ramp and road twists

Have you thought about a traditional spring/shock combo instead?

I had Megan Racing coilovers on my Yaris, and they are very stiff, even on the softest setting (mine began to rust after a year, too). I decided to switch to a set of Tein S-Tech springs and Tokico HPs. The handling is still very good, and it's a much better street setup than super-stiff coilovers.

If you've got your heart set on coils, I think of the three, I'd opt for the Teins. I'd never put Megan Racing coilovers on a car ever again.

Well right now I have the TRDs springs and need more of a drop. For the price I figured just get coilovers.

For daily, you definitely want to go with something more comfortable.

Tanabe / Tein will offer a pretty good ride for it's performance, plus it is adjustable.

By the way, I also have some like new Tein Street Advance for sale at a really good price in the classifieds.

I don't recommend the Megans if you want a cush ride. They definitely are stiff.

I have the Tanabe sustec pro coilovers, and they have been great.

I DD my car and it's not really a hard ride.

I'd recommend them.

Thanks for the responses. Think I will go with the Tanabe. Time to give MI a call...

No go with megan. You get way more options for adjustability and it drops you way lower. You're more than welcome to take a ride in mine to test em out

Eibach sportlines and tokico blues...

Tanabe S-OC and Tein Street Basis are great for a daily driver. Both offer height adjustment only.

Megan offers damping adjustment in the same price range. On full soft, it is firm but certainly ok for a street car.

I thought the Tanable can drop you by 3". How long have you had the megans?

It depends on what you want. If you just want the low ride you may not need dampening and all that.

I would like to upgrade my suspension because I want something more harder and I want the dampening and fully threaded coilovers.
But as for now, i'm very happy with the Tanabe's.

Remember, if you find the ride too stiff you can always get softer springs from Garm and Jeff. :)

Stiffer springs for my Megan's 3k is way too squishy for the rear.

^ That's easy -- might even be on my shelf. Email or call if you're interested in picking up a set of stiffer springs. (Sent out a set yesterday!)

^ I run 8k front / 10k rear -- it is streetable, but not wife friendly and very stiff on bumps, potholes and overpasses.

I might just go with Megan Coilovers then man...I WANT to be suttle....BUTTTTT I love the Low Life like my dude 1.5. My Yaris is gonna be my DD so I don't wanna go too aggressive but I want that shock and awe factor. Megan Coilovers may be my ticket to what I want if I don't go with the Shocks and Springs combo.

I still give myself the shock and awe factor everytime I bang my frame on the floor

I plan on throwing some 8ks up front too

So is it better to have stiffer springs in the rear?

I like stiffer in the front since that's where all the weight is and you sit more oriented towards the front of the vehicle than the rear. I find if I run stiffer in the rear I wind up sesawing between front and rear.

Garm has some heavy sound system iirc so that might be why. Also he does hit the strip every so often and stiffer springs in the rear may be beneficial for that to keep the weight up on top of the front tires. That is a guess though I could be way off.

why?

So is it better to have stiffer springs in the rear?

It really depends what you are looking for.

If you want no drama, do what 1.5 mentioned, and get stiffer in the front. Honestly 99% of cars are set up this way, and for a reason. It is simply safer to drive.

With the rear stiffer, the car will be more neutral handling wise, which is great if you want great handling, and like Garm, you want to race.

But for a daily driver, if you don't want to deal with being on the cutting edge handling wise, it can be dangerous.

I have 8k front and 5k rear, and the rear of my hatch is stripped. I can get the rear end to rotate out a bit for fun if I want to. I imagine if I went to 10k in the rear, it would be much easier to get that rotation, or in terms of daily driving, that oh crap moment where you swerve is going to send you spinning like mad unless you are use to it.

Saying that I will probably get 10k in the rear at some point, and maybe stiffer. For me, 8k in the front is not firm enough. Partially because I am not a small person physically.
