Hello yaris friends,

I've brought a used 2007 yaris (not diesel) 1.3lt engine at 73km (now 79k) and i am in love with her

Is it normal practice to use NON-synthetic oil (castrol gtx protection) to service the yaris every 10km? it costs about 20 dollars only...

The previous owner had got my yaris serviced at toyota under contract of every 10km and the toyota people have been using non-synthetic cheap oil (castrol gtx protection @ 20bucks) up untill it reached about 70km from brand new, in which it was then sold to me.

To my understanding, non-synthetic oil last up to 5km while full-synthetic goes a solid 10km. Is this just dodgy toyota servicing? Even the servicing book times its oil change interval at every 10km but toyota uses non-synthetic oil :brokenheart:

I just don't see how non-synthetic oil can be used for 10km without it losing a ton of lubrication, isn't this bad practice for the yaris?

Love to hear your opinions thanks !

Yaris 1.5 in Canada runs on 5w30 reg oil we at Toyota go by 8 km interval on reg and syn oil...i run reg oil but change it at around 5k ( for me it only costs filter..oil no charge :) for stuff )
Reg oil at 5 km
Syn oil at 8 km
its what i think works best but keep in mind ur driving habits and conditions cos that will effect ur oil intervals .

You change the oil per the OWNERS MANUAL which in the US at least makes no distinction between regular and synthetic oil. The oil change interval is the same for either oil.

Look in your owners manual and go by that.

If they are not following the OM you probably have a legal case against them!

But be advised, you can be sued by the big oil companies for calling regular oil "cheap"!

You dont want to get on their bad side now do you? :iono:

That sounds about normal. Around 6,000 miles, right? What most manufacturers say.

The oil companies are in business to sell oil, not to help you figure out what is best for your car. Unless you drive like speed racer and always accelerate as hard as possible, 10k km is more than safe, and you could probably go further and be fine.
