Spark plug Question please :)

Hi guys I have a 2nz-FE 1.3lt NCP90R

Do i have to Gap the spark plug NGK BKR5EYA11 to 0.043 or is it pre-gapped already? I can't find an affordable Spark plug Metric tool in my area (20 dollars at minimum)

Do you think it is more worth it to wait and invest in the super pricey version?

All you need to gap the plugs is a set of feeler gauges, surely not $20.

Regards Geoff Peace.Sorry! I forgot the second part of your post. I fitted iridium plugs to my car about a year ago well worth it in my opinion. Around 8% increase in m.p.g. and smoother running.

My yaris needs it at 1.1mm, no need for a guage feeler :bellyroll:

How much do feelers costs?

The cheapest auto shop here sells them at 13 to 38 dollars and i don't think they can measure up to 1.1mm

I changed plugs today on my 2009. It had NGK IFR5A11 (iridium long life) from the factory. My mi was 97000. I put Denso SK16R11 (iridium long life) back in. It's my understanding they're essentially identical. The change out was simple and I torqued to 15 ft lbs. I would go with iridium plugs in this engine and do not gap them...they're pre gapped and fragile. Good luck.

I agreed that Iridium IX plugs are pregapped and should not be gapped according to NGK. Iridium tip is extremely fragile and even small impact will break it.

I put 4 of them into my 1NZFE two weeks ago and it runs great and quiet.

I took my original one's(55k miles) out last week and they were right at around .038-39 gap, put anti-seize on the threads and put back in. I'll probably replace them around 100k miles or so. Glad I took them out cause they were real tight, about 30-35 footpounds from the factory. to answer your question-no you shouldn't have to gap iridium plugs, I believe the gap range is .038-.043

Thanks for help guys, just changed my spark plugs today. It had the DENSO copper spark plugs that toyota serviced for its previous owner.

My service manual says to change it every 40km. My yaris is 80km now, last changed 40km ago by toyota and its previous owner.

The old spark plugs were about 1.4-1.5mm gapped from its original 1.1 and quite blackened, i wouldn't advise on following the Australian Service Manual of changing the plugs every 40km using its oem NGK (non iridium) and Denso like it says in the manual..:eek:
