View Full Version : Loud squealing noise?
I have a 2007 Yaris and love it, but can not find the cause of the loud squealing that comes when starting it. Toyota garage said it was water pump, but after replacing that it still squeals. Any others have this problem!

If it only does it on start-up then it is likely that the belt is not tight enough.

Did they reuse your current belt or replace it when they did the water pump. A good shop will replace the belt when ever replacing the water pump unless the belt is very new since you don't pay any additional labor and the belt is fairly inexpensive. I would inspect the belt for any signs of cracks on the ribs. If so then the belt is just cracked and dry and is the culprit. If they did change it then 90 percent then when they replaced the water pump they did not tighten it properly. Our engines dont utilized a hydralic tensioner like the 1.8s do.

This, or it is too tight. if it's just about tight enough, try running a candle (literally) while it is spinning. the candlewax should be eaten away and it will silence the noise for a good year or so.

Had this same problem when replacing the belt. You have a lose drive belt  PRY BAR it tight.Don't go to the mechanic for something you can do yourself, free of charge and in less than 5 minutes. They will suck everyone cent out of you those garages!
