you can't find the obd port and want to play with the engine, I think you better not.

And you think plugging your laptop in will crack you into the ECU settings?

I would think if someone had the smarts enough to be able to do this, you would see the big 'ol OBD Port under the dash...............

Let us know how you make out frying your laptop.

ROFL!

Harsh, but true... leave the tuning to the pros.

I once saw Vin Diesel tune his car with a laptop though.

So is the port USB, FireWire, or SCSI? And is the Yaris Windows or Mac compatible? Can we play iTunes?!? And what if connecting your laptop to the Yaris introduces a virus?!?

I really thought that there were user adj...must be way wrong.
One thing I dont like is the electronic throttle adj. Mine is delayed too much.
Still would like to learn more about the system and how to get into it.

Alright man,

First you need a hookup for your computer for a DLC3 connector- that's the connector type that you car uses for engine control/emissions testing/DTC retrieval (it's just above your left knee under the dash). Then, you would need a program that would allow you to adjust ECM settings, maps and programming. Currently, none exist (outside of Toyota land- and I'm not letting you use mine  ).

Any type of ECM programming (especially on newer vehicles) takes a very detailed knowledge of how not only engines, but how computers operate. Imagine looking at a 100X100 spreadsheet full of seemingly unrelated numbers, and coming up with, "oh, at 4300 rpm the fuel pump resistance jumps to 7.8 ohms- we're going to need to replace the fuel pump." This stuff is crazy! The 4 diagnostic specialists I work with (at Toyota/Lexus) all have master's degrees in electrical, mechanical and computer engineering, and even they get stumped sometimes.

This stuff is not as easy as you would think- but, hell, I got into this by just taking stuff apart [breaking it] and fixing it as best I could. Doing is learning, and learning is breaking ground. If you're computer savvy, get to it!

yeah, but if you connect your laptop it will say: "found new hardware, Yaris 2007", and then you'll see the found new hardware wizard, which will ask you for a driver for your USB yaris...

I know all of that- I'm just making an attempt to keep this discussion civil.

When it prompts for the "driver", key in your name....If you key in the wrong "driver" it could crash your system...ah, I mean car...especially the drunk type!

Hard Wire connection??? My new Yaris is WIFI!! I just pull into my garage, it connects, downloads the latest MP3's, and episodes of 24, Lost, and Rome. Sends maintenance records to my local Toyota dealer, uploads performance records to the house net, and goes to sleep until the next day, When i get in the next day it downloads traffic reports so i can miss bottlenecks and the GPS updates to tell me how, pre-orders my latte from Starbucks so I can just drive up grab it and go (debits my account no paying), and sends flowers to my wife on her birthday (yes it knows when). On race day it downloads my new mapping for torque and power, and sets the GPS to record the runs so I can playback later on my 60 inch Sony SXRD DLP screen

AAAAAAAWESOME!!!! and it is 3 laws perfect right???

1. A Yaris may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A Yaris must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A Yaris must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Anyone know of good harnesses for laptops though, something that can be hidden, while I don't fancy to program my ecu/engine, as that seems unpractical, would be nice to watch movies, mp3s on the Yari.
