Hey guys, I recently bought a 2000 Toyota Vitz from Japan, the bad news is that its Automatic . This is driving me crazy... I love this car but its so boring to drive, my right hand is on the steering wheel n my left hand is limp on the arm rest .

My question to you guys is what are my options in terms of swapping a manual transmission? The Vitz isn't that popular down here.

Are there other toyota cars in which I could swap in a manual tranny? :help:

Thanks
-Justin

The 2000 Vitz/Yaris/Echo used the C150 manual gearbox. There's probably more than just the transmission that you would have to swap, i.e. mounts, shift cables, ECU, etc. Generally speaking, it's easier to just buy a car with manual trans already installed, but if you have access to the parts, tools and funds, you can do whatever you want.

I've seen plenty of threads on these forums asking about swapping from auto to manual, but nobody has ever made a thread documenting a successful conversion.

oh boy that's very disheartening sounds like i'd be better off sinking my funds into a 20v swap or a completely different car =[

I appreciate the honest reply though

I wish my Yaris was an automatic ... as I am just sick of shifting. I never go on the highway .. and an automatic would just be so much nicer.

^ Maybe you guys can trade cars.

Really though, it's a pretty big project. Lots of people have talked about it, as far as I know, no one has done it.
