400km per tank max

I am currently getting 400km per tank maximum until the last bar flashes, and I can confirm the gas gauge is correct because I fill the gas I note down the gas consumed. My drive include 30% city and 70% highway, i changed spark plugs, air filter, air pressure, oil, fuel injection cleaning, throttle body, nothing has helped.

I am wondering could there be a problem with the car, if so what it is?

It is automatic transmission, and I drive normally with no sudden acceleration, always go with the flow of traffic.

youll be surprise where people actually do over 700km on a tank average.. ive done 700km but 90% hwy going 90km/hr average but men i cant do that again its now impossible.

when I did 100% highway nowadays, speed around 100kph, max I got 500km.

3 years before it will go up to 600km.

wow thats a big drop i had the same issue with mine i used to hit 540-560 before the last bar blinks and not its under 500 and im not sure what causing it. hope someone here can figure this out or is our car just getting old..

I have found that the biggest reason for a drop in mileage is the season.

I have been able to get a low of 492 km/tank in the winter time (100% city driving) to a high of 696 km/tank (85% city driving) in summer.

So as you can see there is about a 200 km difference between driving in the summer time vs the winter time. Nothing has changed in the car .. just the weather changed.

winter 550 to 600...with nice weather over 700 km , goes right up. it is 5 speed and mostly country roads at 80 to 100kmh .

but 400km sounds low even with auto on mixed driving .

Figure out your MPG/LP100KM and compare it to your old figures. Fuel gauges are not very accurate and the ability of fuel level sensor to measure can change over time. Your gauge may be reading empty with more fuel left in the tank than before, so saying I went 400KM before the gauge started blinking is not an accurate measurement.

no point, when the last bar flashes, i am already filling 38-40L of gas before the pump clicks.

Sorry, I thought you weren't keeping track of how much fuel you pumped.

Maybe check compression? Engine seems a little young for ring or valve problems, but you never know. Have you noticed an increase in oil consumption, smoking, or does the oil turn black quickly after an oil change? Loss of power or having to use more throttle?

Caine, I don't what to tell you except that I believe it is the seasonal/temperture stuff more than anything, but not the only thing. Of course in your case you would have seen seasonal differences.

Type of tire, tire pressure, air filter, blend of gas, temp, driving style, weather (wind etc.), type of commute, so many variables go into your mpg.

There are some guys here who get in the low 30's because they have short commutes and their automatics barely get a chance to warm up and get out of 3rd. I always thought is took me a good 12-15 MILES before my car was warmed up enough to run efficiently.

I just returned from a trip out to Ohio a couple of weeks ago and on the return trip, I ran 417 miles with 2 gallons remaining. It would have been close to a 500 mile tank or 800km. It was the best I have ever done.

Stock tires, 38psi, fresh oil change, bottle of Techron, CC on all the time and
98% highway driving, foot never touches the brake unless some ass does something something stupid, I am not a hypermiler and I am not a leadfoot. Now that was over 12.5 hours of 58+ mph/average driving. Stopped once. Any kind of city stop and go will kill it.

My advice, for what it is worth, take or leave it, is always the same that I give here with regard to low mpg concerns.

If you have the time, money and inclination, fill it up and go for a long sustained highway drive, hours...................hours hundreds of miles. If you have CC lock it in and go. Then fill it up and do the math, that would give you some indication as to whether the car is indeed the problem or just a combination of the aforementioned variables.

does the dealership able to check for any ring or valve damage or compression?

On Saturday my last bar started blinking. I was in the Back woods and couldn't find an open gas station. I finally found one at about 430 miles. I've never gone past 400 miles on one tank before. I was so excited I took a picture, but forgot to email it to myself to post it here. Will try tomorrow.

Put some Seafoam in your gas and see if that helps. It did wonders for my Yaris.

100% city driving i get at least 580km on a tank of gas. (hint: traffic here is like new york city)

i would assume that's high compared to your auto tranny, so 500km on a tank should be a good number for you.

there's nothing wrong with your car, although with what you said i would like to think your ATF may need replacing. other than that, try cleaning the Air-Fuel sensor.

if nothing helps, the engine just may be getting old--which is absolutely normal.

Just for comparison .. I just hit about 575 km /tank .. and I HAVEN'T had my gauge blink yet. I think that the warmer weather is a huge factor when it comes to mileage. I expect it to start blinking soon .. but I am still a ways to go to hit my all time high of 697 km/tank. Hope to break that this summer.

I got 500 at first... but now I drive a bit more slowly (cuz im low as fuck) and I also change gears a bit earlier... Now I'm getting 645 and it's going up.

My mom drives like a grandma and gets 750km on a tank

found the problem, my 17' mini cooper s rims were the culprit, they were too heavy
