Hi guys, next step in my project is running a standalone ecu (currently using aem FI/c). I would like to use the aem EMS, but I am not sure of some compatibilities with my 1NZFE...
Sensors that I know EMS will support/run easely (correct if Im wrong);
1.Mag crank sensor (already work with FIC, why not)
2.Mag cam sensor (already work with FIC, why not)
3. 370cc deatschwerks injector, 12.2ohm high impedance so why not.
4.Coolant temp, I will use aem unit...
5.Air temp, I will use aem unit...
6.Throttle position sensor (already work with FIC, why not)
Sensors that I am not sure to be able to run;
1.My oem 1nzfe ''coil on top''??
2.My idle air control valve with 3wires on the TB??
3.Could I just use my aem wideband O2 sensor or I still need the original one?
4.Knocksensor??
Also there is 2 kind of wiring kit you can buy, first is a small one with no relay, second is a big one with relay & fuses... Which one I would need? Probably the big one since I dont know how I could still use the stock fuse/relay box.
Thanks big time, and I know most of you guys run Yaris, so you may not answer my question about the idle air control valve (TB is dif from echo)... But thanks for help anyways!

I think Jason@SportsCar is using an EMS as well, you should PM him

Yes he does, he is not using stock coil though, I think he used honda coil ignition...

I use the EMS 2. But it is sort of a hybrid install, I still have the stock ECU to run the drive by wire throttle body.
I am using nearly all OE sensors, along with OE coils and injectors. However, the factory MAF is now used only for air inlet temp because we are using an AEM MAP sensor. We are also using the AEM wide-band O2, the stock O2 is gone.

Okai so if you are still using the stock ECM to run your drive by wire TB, this is because the EMS cannot by itself?? I have an 2005 echo, so my TB is the drive by wire...
Is there any other reason for you to keep the stock ecu installed?
Thanks very much for your fast informations!
Also, what about the wiring kit needed? Do you guys used the big 96'' with the relays & fuses?

The EMS 2 can not run the DBW. The new AEM Infinity is supposed to, but they only have limited applications so far.

converting to cable throttle was not that difficult. We sourced xB pedal, cable and hooked it up to a Celiga GT-S throttle body.
You will need your stock ECU for power steering if you're keeping that. (I know there's a power steering ECU, but the main unit must be present.

OH WHAT THE HELL?
I was gonna go with the EMS and the plug in play harness so I can stay in STF for the rest of the year or until I go turbo.. But if I have to swap the throttle body out and run cable that will throw me into FSP.. son of a monkey!
Thanks for this OP.. thanks alot!
good info here.

Wow, I'm really surprised. That seems like a huge oversight.
What's the drawbacks of not having control over the throttle with the ems? I can't think of any outside of idle control...

I think a plug and play harness are being made for the Yaris now. The AEM can control or read OE sensor's. The purpose of keeping the stock ECU is to control DBW and A/C. My suggestion would be to talk with your tuner he will know what you will need to do.
there is an ems 4 pnp

why is one $100 cheaper than the other and what is the difference?
Eh. I guess if one was ready to purchase they could easily call and find out.

so, what can this do that the EMS 2 can or can not do?
http://www.treadstoneperformance.com/product.phtml?p=4543&cat_key=929&prodname=AEM+EMS+4+30-6905
This is much cheaper, is this a piggy back? All new to me

Its a stripped down version of the series 2. No bells and whistles, no two step, only supports 4 injectors and 4 coils cant remember the rest. Check the AEM forums. I was going to get it but got the Haltech Sprint 500 instead.

I dont have any power steering :P Car is base, didnt come with it!

OMG I made a big mistake by saying that I had a DBW hahahaha I have a drive by CABLE...
Cable and wire were the same thing in my head :P sorry
So I thank you guys, you answered all my question about the ability to run all sensors / TB, since I have a DBC I should have no prob.
But what about the wiring harness I need!? :P

^ You can buy an open pigtail harness and wire it up, I don't think the plug 'n play option we offer for the 2nd gen would work for your car (different ECU configuration)

You are right, it won't fit, completely different.
Here is my though about the wiring I need, correct me if Im wrong;
Like I said earlier, there is 2 wiring kit available, a short one without any fuses or relays and a big one 96'' with relays & fuses...
Even though I have no infos which one to use, I think it depends how I wire everything up. By exemple if I keep my original OE harness and simply splice into it I should only use the small kit without relays&fuses because the factory harness already have its own fuses and relays...
and
If by exemple I start from stratch, make a new wiring harness all from the sensors to the ECM, It should require the big kit with fuses and relays.... (probably my choice here)
This is my though, correct me if Im wrong! Thanks!
