Snagged this kit late last week and it came in yesterday. I didn't have a chance to do a test fit then, but after work today me and my dad got after it and got it mocked up. It fits really well! The back has one side that may need a little work, but I think the rest I should be able to paint and install myself.

Enough talk, on to the pics!

Lucky! One of the best kits available.

Your face is looking a little burnt, might want to use more sun screen and stay away from direct sunlight. hahaha j/k =P

Thanks! I'm really torn on what to paint it. My first thought was to just go with the body color (I still have a fair bit left after painting my wing), however I think a dark grey would look good too. I can't make up my mind... Anyone got suggestions?

lol Kaotic, that's my dad. 100% scottish (I'm 75%) so we have a lot of red tint :P

I'm going to go against everyone and say paint matched. Otherwise, people might think either A. you're a ricer, and/or B. you're too cheap to paint the kit. With that said, it's your car and you should do what you like

Matching the wheels (gun metal) or body color are best.

great! this is the only bodykit that i liked. other than a "Euro" setup, rubber front lip (home depot) and/or side skirts only, that is.

unfortunately, ABS plastic kits are not available here (or not cheap, either way means the same for me) and i dont want to go fiberglass.

question, how do you plan to install the sideskirts? i won't suggest drilling holes in the body (the only hole available is for the front mudguard AFAIK). do we have holes at the bottom for clips or is it purely 3m mounting tape to install?

BTT, id say color-matched with black front center and rear center parts --like the factory installed ones on white.

I started to prime this today and then remembered that I was going to have to pull the bumper cover off to do the projector conversion I've been putting off. Rather than put the kit on just to have to take it off again later I finally got the motivation to install the projectors.

Well, TRS still has halos on backorder. Car is still torn apart in the garage. At least I've gotten some painting done though...

I decided to go with wheel color for the kit. The paint was cheaper and I just liked the idea of 2 tone. I'll be clearcoating this one today, and possibly starting to mount it.

One skirt is done. 2 coats of primer, 4 coats of paint, 3 coats of clear.

The other skirt has 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of paint. I'll try to finish it up today if possible. Everyone in my family is out of town except me this week so I don't have anyone to help me install it though :(

47_MasoN_47
07-18-2013, 12:25 PM
Finally got around to redoing a bunch of wiring under the dash. Rerouted all my boost wiring through conduit and then up under the carpet to the center console. Not related to this really, but since the car isn't drivable at the moment it was a good time.

TRS shipped my halos last night though, so hopefully I'll have some projectors installed this weekend.

Cut off shouldn't be affected, but you may get a black spot(s) from where there should be light output closer to the car. Cut off is half way up the projector.

Yeah, this whole process has been quite a bit of suck.

I stuck everything together just to see how it worked and this is what came out of it. I'm guessing that's not really how it's supposed to look.

Are the projectors oriented correctly? and left one on the left?

Kaotic Lazagna
07-22-2013, 11:31 PM
Try reinstalling them. Maybe the rubber grommet/washer/spacer thing is twisted or something. They are pointed WAY too down.

47_MasoN_47
07-23-2013, 12:11 AM
Yeah the housing isn't actually mounted, it's just sitting in the car so I expected it to be pointed down. I just wasn't expecting that weird jaggy line.

The projector is oriented correctly, but I didn't see any indication of left/right.

Kaotic Lazagna
07-23-2013, 12:27 AM
There should not be a driver and passenger side projector. Only LHD and RHD projectors from what I've seen. What jaggy line? The step is the cut off, so that way you don't blind on coming traffic, and throw out more light towards the passenger side. Only problem I can see, now that you mentioned it was just sitting on the car, is trying to seat the bulb better. If the cut off bows up or down towards the ends, the bulb isn't seated as best that it can be. I'm not sure if it's just your driveway or not, but the left end looks like it's bowing upwards slightly. For me, that isn't a big issue since it's just slight (mine is like that too, and I got frustrated so I left it as it is now).

Kaotic Lazagna
07-23-2013, 12:30 AM
You can set it up like this where the driver and passenger side cut off's stack (has two "steps"):
http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRpyTDxQeWi2PlXaUIa5_ZfgdmmeyqlX Wq-t_SEskB18Xxh7p1UxA

Or the conventional overlapping way (has one "step"):

47_MasoN_47
07-23-2013, 12:32 AM
Oh, so it's not supposed to be a straight line, it's supposed to have that drop in it?

Kaotic Lazagna
07-23-2013, 12:33 AM
The only projectors that I can think of having a driver and passenger side are the LS430/460 projectors since they utilize both a projector and a small reflective housing right under the projector to get maximum width and throw.

Kaotic Lazagna
07-23-2013, 12:34 AM
Oh, so it's not supposed to be a straight line, it's supposed to have that drop in it?

Yup. Should have a step like that. Now, if it was a downward step, then they would have accidentally shipped you a RHD projector

47_MasoN_47
07-27-2013, 03:20 PM
Ok well I've finally gotten the housings cut up sufficiently where I feel like I can permanently mount the projectors in there.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-LUk38Nc4QOA/UfQOfg_9YuI/AAAAAAAAJpg/y3mAsdx8WtU/s912/IMG_20130726_173916_584.jpg

I seated the lights properly in the front of the car so that they aren't pointing directly at the ground this time.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-b7wbaWdzmV0/UfQOflA_gyI/AAAAAAAAJpg/seMkooyDf60/s912/IMG_20130726_185344_580.jpg

It gets a nice cutoff (most of the light above the cutoff is just from the camera), but is way too low. I looked through my car's manual and couldn't find anything on headlight adjustment, but they need to be cranked up a fair bit.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-CZYedjS2iiU/UfQOfi6jyyI/AAAAAAAAJpg/W8av1zEcT4M/s912/IMG_20130726_203211_808.jpg

Brian

So does anyone know how to adjust the headlights on the Yaris sedan?

Turn the knobs on the back of the headlights to raise and lower. You can do it by hand or with a socket or screwdriver.

47_MasoN_47
07-27-2013, 05:14 PM
Thanks Brian, I'll try that. I thought that's what that thing might have been but I didn't want to jack something up.

Kaotic Lazagna
07-28-2013, 01:16 AM
Also, if you can, rotate the projectors slightly counter clock wise as they're a bit crooked.

If you park parallel to a wall on a flat surface, adjust the headlights so they are slightly on a decline from being completely horizontal along the wall. Adjust either side, then re-park perpendicular to the wall, 50 ft would be good, farther the better (just not too far), and then adjust the other side so that it matches the side you adjusted parallel to the wall (with either way I mentioned a few posts back; single or double "steps").

47_MasoN_47
07-28-2013, 02:02 AM
Alright, Yeah I'll try to rotate them some, unfortunately they turned a bit while I was tightening them up.

Thanks for the advice. These are setup to be used in that double step fashion. After I looked at the boxes for the projectors I noticed there is a specific one for the left and right, it's just labeled on the box and not the projector. Luckily I had kept up with which one was in which box!

Kaotic Lazagna
07-28-2013, 02:06 AM
Yeah, tightening them is tricky. Just trial and error I guess since I don't really have a way to suggest. lol.

Double step, eh? Okay, parallel park with the passenger side towards the wall and aim so that it's horizontal. Then park perpendicular to the wall and adjust the driver side so that it creates that first step. ;)

Very odd. I wonder why it has a driver and passenger side since the cut offs look the same to me. I can see why there would be if the passenger side had a flare at it's right most end.

07-31-2013, 08:56 PM
Got one finished.

Progress has been slow on everything in general. Lot of family stuff going on at the moment, work being busy, etc. Once this headlight junk is finished and the car is drivable again, I'll spend some more time looking for the best way to mount those side skirts.

Matching the wheels (gun metal) or body color are best.

Agreed, my first choice would be match it up to the body colour 100% to make it look OEM.

The only other option would be the dark grey, to match the wheels as stated, but personally I'd match up the factory colour.

The shrouds are mini gatling gun. The full size gatling gun wouldn't even fit in the sedan housing at all haha.

Sorry about the lack of updates. The 2 skirts are 100% ready for install and the front piece is about 80% sanded getting ready for primer. I've had a lot going on with family stuff and then catching up on some work the truck needed. Since the Yaris is running again I've mostly just been driving it instead of doing more work haha. The interior is all torn apart where I've been installing that new head unit I got from a member here. That thing is awesome but I've got some wiring work to do to get it to work with the custom ports I'd added with the last HU.

Well, about the time I was going to get balls deep in this project again my grandad's health took a turn for the worst. He passed away last weekend. That kindof derailed my work for a bit, but I should get the front piece finished this week. The rear part needs a little fitting work, so I'm not going to paint that until I figure out how I want to go about fitting that properly, but I should be able to get the front and skirts installed.

Got a lot of work to do on the interior getting the new radio wired up right and adding some ports and whatnot. Also, after talking with Kaotic I think I'm going to paint some of the panels on the interior to match the lip kit. Should look pretty good when it's done.

This is certainly taking a lot more time than I planned, but with painting weather quickly fading I've been trying to finish up a bunch of work on the truck as well. I didn't get near as much done this summer as I wanted, but I guess that's how it goes.

When I bought this light rail it was pink and had about 5 layers of paint underneath that. Sanding all that junk off and then getting it primed/painted took a good bit of work, but I wanted to finish that before the winter so I could go ahead and get the lights mounted. The lighting on this truck is horrid. Those old sealed beams aren't worth a fart in a jar and the reverse lights literally do nothing other than tell other people that you're in reverse.

Alrighty, got the interior trim pieces primed and a few of them painted yesterday. Finished the prep work on the front bumper piece and bought some more primer during lunch so I should be able to get it primed and maybe shoot one coat of color on it today. Yanked the A-pillar a few days ago and ran the bluetooth mic for the DEH-80PRS up the a pillar and through the dash. Fixed my freaking dash kit again as the lower tab on the driver's side broke. This time I reinforced it with aluminum sheeting and steel wire. If it breaks this time I'm just going to leave it.

Got the front piece on :) It looks great and fit really well. It was tight enough that it probably would have stayed on without reinforcement, but I drilled a few holes along the inside of the wheel well and zip tied it for extra security. I may do a few more if I see any signs of stress on the ones I put on. I'm going to try to get at least one skirt on tomorrow :)

Personally I think that you should stay away from eyelids Jas...IN think they look tacky in daylight, but that might be just me.

Hey man, just a curious question, how were the side skirts installed? Did they have holes on the underside where you can put clips on?

I'm not sure how the underside of our sedans look, but the more i google the more it seems it's only on the hatchback that the side skirts have holes (and the body too).

if you have pictures of the side skirts before you installed them i would love to see them.

great build btw!
