This may have been addressed on an earlier thread. I have manual 2010. I realize I have a small engine. I have noticed during hard accelerations in first gear around 3k rpm there sometimes is a slow down on the rpm ramp up. I believe I am noticing it more lately because I have been driving more nutty.
I am curious if this is something that could be corrected somehow. I am wondering if there is not enough fuel getting to the motor, whether injectors not keeping up or a fuel filter, or it is a small engine and it is doing he best it can. It only occurs in first doing hard take offs and not everytime. Thank you for your thoughts.
The slow down on the ramp up of rpms is very noticable when it does it, almost like taking your foot off the pedal. It picks back up after a sec or two.

probably the a/c comp switching on then back off. have you tried switching off a/c entirely to make sure it isnt the culprit?

It was not the AC. I have been running without AC some and still the same result... The rpm were on ramp nicely and about 4k it was like a drag on the motor, I hit second a sec or two later and the ramp was fine. Any other ideas?

I will assume this is normal engine acceleration.

From what I have seen those hesitations coincide with sudden changes in timing, which would indicate that it is just an anomaly of the VVTI.
