View Full Version : Having sidelights come on when unlocking car.

Hey everyone, as the title states I'm wondering if it's possible to have the sidelights come on when I unlock the car as the interior lights come on with my MK3? Of course if it follows suit that the interior lights switch off after a while and when the engine starts then the sides will too. Also, if it can, is it simple? Just an idea that's been rattling round my head for a while since my misery of not being able to retrofit projectors. (Not through lack of skill I may add - my oven is too small)
Thanks!

If you are willing to cut and splice some wires to hook up a relay, it is doable. I recently helped a member from Europe do a similar thing, where he wanted the headlights to come on when the doors are unlocked.

Thanks for the reply - yeah, I'm sure I'll be able to do some of that. What sort of work would it involve? I do like the idea of the headlights, is it possible to do this with the fog lamps rather than sidelights? What would be easier? Just thinking that for the purpose of finding the car in a dark car park then the fogs would be good for that.

It is no problem to switch whichever lights you would like to come on - headlights, side marker lights, or fogs. The headlight or side lights probably make more sense though, as the fogs are only visible from the front, where the other two are visible from front or rear.
I will post up a DIY on doing so.
