Recently bought a 2012 yaris and it came with a weird port under the handbrake labeled ipod. Was wondering what cable I could get to connect this to a iPod or generic mp3 player?

Did you buy it used? Is this someone's mod?
The iPod connector, along with an 1/8" audio jack should be in the glovebox.
Pic would help.

Yeah used to be an rental car. Did not see any aux/USB port in glove compartment. Will post pics when I get a chance. It looks like two rows of pins.

The port is just the aux in port for a ipod, just need a 3.5mm to 3.5mm and good to go :)

Wow who would have thought. What a brilliant idea putting it in the glovebox. Imagine trying to plug your phone into that while driving.

Dealer sys it's a $200 cable to conect the IPOD to the car systems. I too bought a used car there were not "parts in the glovebox" searching amazon where the Nissan cord is only $20 ($89 list). trying to verify it would work in the Yaris. Anyone know?:iono:

I don't think you need any special cables. It should be standard USB?
Here is a youtube video describing how its done

What I did was purchase a short USB extension cable, which was under $10 US. I plugged that extension cable into the USB port in the glove compartment. Then, I tucked the cable around under the dash and center console to eventually come out between my seats. From there, I plugged in my Apple cable. That makes using my iPhone more convenient.
