I was wondering if anybody knew what purpose the socket-like thing on the center console next to the shifter on the Automatic 4-spd Yaris. I circled it in the attached picture. My attention was brought to it in a test drive that I took in a Yaris that was fresh off of the truck. It was missing the filler piece for that socket-thing and there was a piece of white plastic inside, which kind of looked like a button. Is there an option or package that makes use of that thing?

As far as I recall, that socket is to insert the car keys and change gears when the car wont start.

This looked like a good spot for my first post reply.

To be exact its called the shift lock, and you dont actually need your keys to use it. its there so you can take the car out of park without the keys.

My Pontiac Vibe has one of these, but the manual states that it's only supposed to be used if you CAN'T get the auto tranny to shift out of its current lever position. It recommends taking it to the dealer immediately if you have to use the button. Just FYI. I'm assuming the Yaris would have a similar setup, since a Vibe is only a re-skinned Matrix... all the same company.

Actually, I think all cars that have an Auto/Trans have those.

True. The owners manual is a wonderful little book as well.

We have Taco Cabana, kicks Taco Bell's ass. Taco Bueno is alright for an occasional fix.
