You are lucky in Canada that Toyota called you. In Australia not a single words about recall Yaris model 2012 (mostly assembled in Japan where 130k been recalled.
Good luck friend.

"...due to a glitch in the electric power steering system, which could make the steering heavier."

There are threads on this forum about removing the PS relay to get a more solid feel for the steering. The steering is heavier, especially at slower speeds, but steering feedback is great at highway speeds.

A relay in the power steering control module needs to be replaced.

The official statement is that the wire from which a relay coil is made may have been stored/assembled in less than ideal conditions. This may have caused the wire to absorb moisture, which may cause deposits on the printed circuit board, which may cause a short circuit which will cause the module to fail and the steering to become heavy due to lack of power assistance. The solution is to replace the steering control module. I telephoned the dealer yesterday and was told my car was not on the list for recall. I therefore assume that Toyota have several suppliers for these modules and only one is affected.
