I own a 2009 Yaris Hatchback that I love, but I also have a family of 4 who likes to go camping, etc. Obviously space is an issue, especially with young kids who are still in car seats. I'm looking for something that I can use to expand storage space, and wondering if anyone here has any suggestions.
Thanks!
There have been many discussions about a yaris hauling a small trailer. I have thought about this for myself. I have seen traliers as small as 3.5' by 4' and was thinking of something along those lines for a similar reason.
I have also been told that the towing capacity was ~700#
Just an idea.

I'd really prefer not to have to pull a trailer if I can help it, but I appreciate the info.
I thought about the containers on the top and I think they would work if you had a 4 door but not sure how it would work on a 2 door.
you do have the option to slide the back seats forward which gives you another 6-8" of cargo space (but at the sacrifice of people space)

Family of 4 in a Yaris hatchback? I hate to be negative on our little cars, but that's probably not the best vehicle for taking family trips on.

We (family of 4) have done long weekend runs with one of our Yaris liftbacks. I found that by removing the plastic cover over the spare tire we could gain a significant amount of cargo space, as there is a lot of wasted air space there.
We were able to not just fit our stuff, but had enough space to bring three cases of wine back for a New Hampshire state liquor store.

Starting using this last year in order to go on long family vacations in the Yaris rather than larger thirstier vehicle.
Easily holds a huge duffel bag with all clothing for a family of 3, leaving the interior storage free for coolers, gifts, etc.
We've been doing day trips in my 3 door liftback for almost a year now. my wife and i with 2 daughters (4 and 8 yrs old). we recently bought a mazda3 sedan so the yaris is off of family duty. very few complaints though with some of our trips being 6 hours round trip, we probably wouldn't have gone taking my wife's SUV (the vehicle she traded).

Our four door sedan has plenty of room. The trunk is quite big. I have to pickup my daughter and boy friend from the Airport a week after next. They both have big duffel bags, plus they're both adults not kids.
Unfortunately I carry a bunch of stuff in my trunk. Have to empty some of it out.

How much of a decrease in fuel economy do you see while putting this to use?
