Good evening folks!!!

A couple of months ago I bought myself a 2008 Toyota Yaris TR D-4D. Had only 31,000 on the clock, has 90BHP standard, £30 a year to tax and insurance was £450 for the year.

Happy days.

This is what she looked like the day I bought her.

First thing I did was get the windows tinted and ordered some Heko Wind deflectors of ebay Set the car off just nice I think :)

So Monday I headed off out to see the local tint and vinyl wrap bloke. He very kindly fit me in at short notice to tint my lights (He used the fly eye stuff) and carbon wrap my bonnet! I will be heading back to him in a few weeks to wrap my roof too. He did an absolutely shit hot job!

So this is how she's standing so far :) Wednesday I shall be de rubstripping and de badging the car and hopefully spraying my front and rear toyota emblem black.

All I got to do now is lower the car and buy new wheels. I'm really struggling to decide to go just springs or coiliee, and I have no idea what wheels I want to get! When she's done though, I aim to have her looking like this:

I look forward to showing you all my progress :)

must say mate I was reluctant to get it done at first. Didnt think there was much point! So glad I did now though. really happy with it and it doesn't stand out too much! Very subtle :)

Subtle is good....usually Carb-Fi is the focal point and detracts from the rest of the car.

Like what you've done there!

Thanks buddy! I appreciate that :)

Just ordered myself some plastidip so I will be plastidipping my bonnet and boot emblem as soon as that arrives :) Might do that and the de badging and de rubstripping in one swoop :)

Looking good so far. I don't think we ever had that color offering on the US Yarii, it looks great! And 67mpg?! I assume this is a diesel?

It sure is :) I'm getting between 50 and 55mpg on short journeys :) I do a lot of miles due to my photography business so this is amazing for me!!!

You dont have Tacuma Grey in the states?????? I feel sorry for you! This colour is stunning! The first thing that attracted me to it :)

This ~65 mpg is with Imperial gallons or "American" gallons?

Here in the US we have hybrids from Toyota but no diesels.

I found this stating 62mpg imperial and 52mpg US.

Thought so.

Still I would like to see how many mpgs I could get with a diesel!

In Canada in 2011 diesel was still less than gas.

It's imperial mate! With the price f fuel around here it's very much needed. Diesel here in the UK can be as much as £0.12 per litre more expensive! I'm surprised there is no diesels in the states! As I hear fuel isn't much cheaper than what it is in the UK!

An American gallon now in NJ is ~$3.50.

A diesel would be an improvment over a hybrid which is all we get from big T.

The US has quite a few laws and regulations against using diesel fuel. The diesel motors have to be very clean to be able to run. Ironically, there are different regulations for Large trucks (like transfer trucks and 2500 series pickups) that allow them to get past some of those laws but not all.

I wish we had some of the diesel options that our neighbors to the north have (canada). I know they could at one time get the diesel smart and I think even the diesel yaris. I would love to have a diesel mini.

Ok. After doing a bit if conversions, here in the UK, diesel works out at about $8.81 per US gallon lol. I'm moving to the states.... Lol!!!

Spot of detailing done yesterday. Never realized how much fun doing the car yourself was!! Never am I going to the car wash again.

Method:

Hosed down to get rid of loose debris
2 bucket method with AG Car Shampoo and Conditioner
De-Tarred with AG Intense Tar Remover
Clayed with AG Detailing Clay and AG Quick Detailer
Polished with AG Super Resin Polish
Waxed with AG HD wax

So much fun. didn't get too many pics. Infact. I took only 1 just after I rinsed the car down in the first step... Lost light and it's poured down with rain all day today so couldn't take an after photo :( Gives me an excuse to do it again ;)

The irony in your post is that I have been waiting for fuel prices to severely spike for years. I think for us (the US) it is just a matter of time.

The rest of the world drives small, fuel efficient cars while we drive our huge trucks and SUVs as daily drivers. Generally speaking, we think it is good to get 30mpg (on average).

I do think this mentality is changing somewhat but it is still there. I don't think I will forget the Hummer days any time soon. 13mpg and it seats 5 (just like my yaris).

Bit of an update! Bought Corolla t-Sport wheels for my car today. Love the way they look. The car is just crying out to be lowered now though! Guess what I'm gonna be sorting out next month ;)

There is american salary that goes with it.

And are you serious that you guys fill up in metric and imperial the rest?
Anyways, gas price in Canada is at about 5$ US GAL.

had a chance to head out and take some photos of my pride and joy yesterday :) so I thought I'd upload a current image of how she stands with the way she was the day I got it 3 months ago. It's crying to be lowered now!! Was going to buy springs but I've decided to wait it out and buy some coilies so I can kick the camber out as well :)

It's true! We fill up per litre but we judge our cars on MPG. We're a strange bunch here you know lol

What did you use to tint your headlights and fog lights?

I used the fly eye stuff mate :) I'd recommend it. Doesn't look quite as good very close up, but it still allows a lot of reflection from the reflectors and if I change my mind about it and no longer want it on, I can remove it really easily :)

It's been a while since I've done anything to the car so it's good to be posting again!!!

Still not lowered it yet but done a couple of things today.

I've plastidipped the wing mirrors red. Not 100% happy with them as I think it'd look better with a darker red, so will get them into the sprayers and get them done the same time I do my wheels!

I've also de rubstripped the front and back end of the car. Gives it a muuuch smoother look
