Why start another thread?
He closed his own thread himself and will re-open it once he get the car back.

[meh, i'm editing this] I think that thread was, overall, incredibly supportive.

With that said, let's leave the guy alone, I'm sure he's suffering more than anyone else over it. I think this thread should be deleted.

and this goes in Off Topic. IMO

"Why start another thread?" Because if he didn't we wouldn't be able to to do this....

Is it here yet?! Is it here yet?! Is it here yet?!

As a person who has waited, and waited, and waited on a painter to finish his "Sistine Chapel" project to be delivered...always late and never without grief all I can say is give Astroman a break....it's out of his control and no amount of badgering is going to change that.

For me, I just check back here every few days and I know as soon as he's got something of substance to post (pictures I mean!) he will.

Otherwise it's just a waste of bandwidth to keep noodling him.

All in fun people. This isn't a third grade "pick on the little guy" playground thing. Time for lunch...but my son stole my lunch money though =(

It's ok guys. I just closed my thread (for now) because it wasn't getting any real updates other than "maybe this weekend" followed by "maybe this weekend", followed by.... you get it. It's now gotten so bad with the wife it's caused some major problems as we've nearly missed out on our entire summer. Had lots of plans to go camping, traveling, visit the coast and take her to Olympic National Park on the Olympic Peninsula. The extra money we've had to spend with the other two vehicles just to keep them running, insured, and licensed (with one of the cars being a turbo project car with a transmission that only has 2 of the 4 forward gears and wasn't even supposed to be driven) has cost us over $4k now and I wasn't able to get the pool done in time for my wife's physical therapy which means she will be bed and couch ridden when the weather gets cold.

All in all a lot of my excitement for getting the car has faded. With no updated pics in a month and with EVERY weekend being another disappointment depression is starting to kick in. I'm planning on picking the car up on Friday if he doesn't deliver. To hell if it's done or not, as long as it drives.

I'm sorry Astroman, I wasn't aware you had so much crap dumped on you. I was just teasing you about your troubles with your painter. Hang in there.

I can handle a little teasing but I was really starting to get embarrassed with how long it's taken. I'm afraid to mention any progress without pics or seeing it in person.

I'll post some high resolution pictures soon.

i am not sure what you mean by cut and buff, but buffing (if that is paint), you will just need to use 1400 grit sandpaper. wet sand the are until not as rough as orange peel. (yes the fruit).

after which, you polish with buffing compound. don't use the over-the-counter 3M ones, they are too strong and doesnt finish well. (and quite expensive since you'll be needing a lot)

yes that's the info I was In need of. My cousin got all butt hurt last night and instead of simply telling me this he went off on a tangent. I assume I'll find what I need at Wesco?

The buffing compound is called rubbing compound here too. The 1400grit can be any branded (like 3M) sandpaper so the abrasives's sizes will be consistent (cheapo ones have bigger and smaller abrasives if you magnify under the microscope--not good for the paint)

And unfortunately other than Home Depot, I don't know a lot of stores in the US. My sister stayed in DC for a few years and I have relatives there in Jersey, but that's as US as it can get for me. :bellyroll:

Did he burry the custom paintwork under a thick layer of clear coat?

...did he get that far? ...or does it still need to be cleared?

Astroman

He buried the paint under two thick coats of clear at least. Should be getting the car back from the local guy tomorrow.

Done enough to drive, but not done enough for shows. Still waiting on my side skirts and need to finish wet sanding the clear so it's smooth enough to polish. Just been to busy with work combined with lack of experience on the sanding part to finish. My cousin said he'd come over to help me finish but it could be 2017 before that happens, or hell freezes over.

^ Don't be pessimistic. 2017 is a reasonable estimate.
