Spark plug replacement

Hi all,

My Yaris engine had a little less power than usual. So I replace the spark plugs at 112K miles although I was hoping that they would last until 120K. I owned a 6 cylinder car and that car's spark plugs had was less wear even at 120K. I am well aware that a 4 cylinder engine takes more abuse but it could be our driving style! Anyway I thought I would share a pic of the worn spark plugs. There is a little bridging occuring on the plug but other than that, I don't see that much wear. I got OEM replacements from Rockauto and installed them the basic way, one at a time. Also I remembered to disconnect the battery so that the ECM can learn the new idling. Our Yaris runs great now. Please let me know your thoughts about any other maintenance that I should do at 112K. I had the coolant flushed at 100K and the transmission fluid looks ok. And I still have the original brakes! :headbang: BTW, I also replaced the climate control knob bulbs since they went dead. I think Toyota recommends replacing our spark plugs at 100,000 miles so you got 12,000 extra miles on the originals. You should definitely get better gas mileage now and to me it makes sense to change them at around 90,000 miles. With gas prices so high, new plugs will pay for themselves very quickly.
I only have 50,000 miles on my factory plugs so I have awhile to go. I'm very tempted to buy some new plugs just to see if I notice any difference at all. My Yaris is a 2007 as well. I wonder if age alone takes a toll on these iridium plugs.

those plugs don't look all that bad. Tedtalker, Just-fyi you might want to remove the plugs check the gap and install back using anti-sieze so you won't have a hard time removing them at 100k miles. There are a few threads around here about folks having a hard time removing the original plugs from the factory because they were too tight. I removed mine at 60k and they were indeed real tight, about 40 foot pounds.

I think I will do that and put some new plugs in as well since I'll be going through the trouble.
