Maybe I'm behind the times with modern 4 cylinder engines, but I was wondering about valve adjustments on the 1.5L engine. Looking at the maintenence schedule book, I could not find anything about adjusting the valves. Are the valves self-adjusting? Hydraulic valve lifters?
Anyone know?
Thanks!

The valves are not self adjusting. If you go by the track record of Echo and xA/xB drivers, then the valves do not require maintenance... its a Toyota...just keep oil in it, and it will run ...

So then there is no preventative maintenence in regard to the valves?

According to my Genuine Toyota 2007 Scheduled Maintenance Guide, at 60,000 miles a tech is supposed to inspect the valve clearance.
Unless I have reason to believe my valves are out of clearance (change in the valve ticking noise, lack of valve ticking, loss of power) I wont pay for the service...It hasnt been an issue on Echo's, or xA/Xb's.
