Today I installed a keyless entry system from bulldog. It's working just fine but once I connected the parking light flash I came across a peculiarity. When I open the driver's door after remotely unlocking the car I get the tone like the door is open and the key is in the ignition. This only started happening when I connected the parking lights. Any ideas why this is happening?

It sounds like the bulldog may be turning on ignition power to do the parking light flash. If you unlock it and then wait 15 seconds or so before opening it does it still chime?

No it doesn't. After some time the parking lights go off and it doesn't chime any more. I noticed that shortly after posting.

OK - If the parking lights are on, then you would get the chime when the door is open. If they simply flash quickly and then stay off it won't.

So it's normal? So the problem is the bulldog keeping the lights on for a few seconds.

Yeah.. i get this one the 02 civic too (OEM keyless). Basically, when the lights are on and door open, you'd get the chime

I think it is a very bad way to make the lights blink on lock/unlock. OEM Toyota uses the blinkers.

Is there a wire that could be used that wouldn't activate the chime? It doesn't bother me if I unlock and the lights go off by the time I get to the car, but if I unlock and then immediately open the door it's actually quite annoying.

Not for the tail lights. Check the manual for your keyless to see if you can have it just flash the lights, rather than leaving them on.

No dice. The unlock flashes the parking lights but it holds the last flash for a few seconds. That's where the problem is. :/

can't you tap it to the hazard flashers instead of the parking lights?

He could if he wants them on instead of the parking lights. The hazards require a negative output from the keyless entry box.

They can be tapped at the black wire on the back of the hazard switch or at the black wire at terminal 17 of connector 4S in the under dash fuse panel.

I think I'll try that. The under dash fuse panel you're referring to is then one behind the 'sunglass' box above the drivers kick panel, yes?

Would you happen to have a diagram for said terminal/ connector?

So tapped into the hazards. Now the light just flash for the same amount of time they were staying on before. I think I would rather deal with the chime.

Installed a Viper remote start and keyless system on my 2007 Yaris from BestBuy using my employee discount. Viper 4103V + SmartStart GPS Module. Employee cost out door with GeekSquad install was $169 and Viper has a BBY Employee Accomodation of $1 per year of SmartStart/GPS service. Non discount cost would be $400 + Yearly subscription.

When the lights are activated the Yaris thinks you left on your Parking/Headlights. Nothing to worry about. The chime isn't a dealbreaker honestly. The only irritation I have would be the windows roll up too quickly. The Auto window close when pressing lock is an awesome addition, but the Viper keeps pushing for an additional 10 seconds and I'm worried it may burn out my motors. (Returning to GeekSquad to have the timer adjusted, just been too busy to stick to an appointment.)
