Replacement tire help

It's time to replace the tires on my g/f yaris. Since the car is so light, every tire I would like to put on there is bad for a light weight car. What are you guys running? We live out side of Chicago, so I need one that is good in the snow too.

I am running Hankook Optimo 4S .. but I am not sure if you can get them in the US. I heard they only sell them in Canada. But good in the snow, I have been driving with them all last winter and they were fine.

If running a dedicated summer and winter tire is not an option, but you're looking for an all-season tire that's awesome in the snow, check out the Nokian WRG3. While they aren't the most quiet tire in the world, they are awesome in the snow. When I lived in Milwaukee I had these tires on my Honda Civic. They were amazing in the snow.

I'm not big on running a summer/winter tire. The streets are only bad for a day the most. Good all-season would be great. I love michelin tire, that is all I have on my cars. But I was reading that the defeder sucks on a light car. I'm not a fan of a soft tire like firestone. But would that be the best way to go, go soft?

I don't want to impact your choice, but you see temps lower than 45F often or it last throughout the winter, it is a good idea to run on dedicated winter tires since all season rubber gets harder below 45 and it is bad for handling.

Tires and brakes are the last you can do for safety..

Since I dont have to space or money to run a winter/summer tire. I think I'm going to stick with the OEM tire, since we got 50k on them with no problems. With every review I read people say that every tire is bad in the snow, even the ones I have on my BMW X3. I have never had a problem with the tires on my X3, I just think people don't know how to drive and say it the tire is the problem.

What brand and age/mileage are your OEMs?

My OEM Bridgestone Potenzas were fine for their first 2 winters. Third winter was damn scary with them and that was when I made the investment in dedicated winter tires after ~76,000 kms.

It is a 2010, Bridgestone Potenzas, and 51k on the clock. I would say the same thing this last sping(no snow in the winter this year, came in the spring) it was getting bad.

Nokian WR-G2 are a good all season and seem to have good low rolling resistance for F.E.. They're usually over $100 each . Many Honda dealers have them in stock .

I just ordered a set of 185/60/15 Michelin Defenders from Costco ($70 off this month) and will report back in about a week when they come in. They're going on my better half's Yaris and we mainly want it to be quieter, ride a little better and to be able to accelerate when it's raining without doing unintentional burnouts.

Personally, I would pick just about any tire over the OEM Bridgestone Potenza RE92s. They are very expensive and almost universally hated, especially in the Subaru community (they came on WRXs for awhile).

Hey, hopefully you see this reply. Did you decide on new tires?

I'm reading this forum section and I'm getting lost because I don't care about lowering the car, rims, wheel sizes etc - I just think I need to replace my original tires. Have almost 50K on them. I would like to get what Yaris owners consider "good," and not be at the mercy of a tire store and just walk in blindly and take their recommendation.

I also am in the Chicago area, and need all season tires that work well in snow.

Did you decide on anything? especially since you're in my area, do you recommend any store? Thanks!

(also anyone else, please feel free to chime in. I'm reading this section but I don't mod my car and so I'm lost with the discussions here. I just need whatever tires fit a non-modded car, that are considered the best I can get for all season, and bad winters)
