Would I be ok to fill my 2002 Yaris D-4D(Diesel) with 10W40 oil as opposed to the usual 10W30?
If it helps the car has about 93,000 miles on the clock and we're approaching an Italian winter that could, at the extreme, be knocking on -5°C.
Reason I ask, is that I can get a deal on a load of the stuff and I can also do my Fiat at the same time.
Cheers,
Tom.

For the 1ND-TV engine, 5W-30 is the "preferred" oil from -30C to 38C+. 10W30 is recommended from -18C to 38C+ and 15W40 is recommended from -12C to 38C+. So, 10W40 would be fine down to somewhere between -12 and 18C.

Just resuscitating this thread because I'm a silly noob , apologies in advance
I actually have the exact same question as the original poster , I also live in Italy, and I have a 2004 Yaris 1.4 d4d .
I'm due to change my oil next month meaning that it might last me until may or even June this year, by which time it should hopefully be lovely and sunny and around 28-30°C during the daytime.
That's why , according to the table on my user manual I feel inclined to go for a 10w-30 oil, but I'm just puzzled as to why a 5w-30 should have such a different max temperature range ( it appears to be good only up to about 10°C ) .
Could there be a mistake in the manual ? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190112/815ce9eb0e18d0a360bdc6476c3898b2.jpg
