Inspired by all the Russian dash cam videos on the UTubes and the sheer insanity with which people drive these days around here... I went and bought a cheap Chinese ripoff HD dash cam (http://www.ebay.com/itm/271179485916) off of ebay at $13 for "evidence" should I ever need it. Takes pretty good video and I slapped a cheap 16GB mem card in it so it takes quite a bit of video before overwriting the old stuff.
Anyone got any cam footage they wish to share?

Yes I'd like to see too, yet my interest is more how the setup looks.

yeah...can you post up a captured video? I would be interested in purchasing myself possibly. At that price for the peace of mind I would pick up for all three of my vehicles. I did have y gopro hooked up for a bit in Tiamat for daily usage, but only have used it off and on.

LMAO, i got a few saved from other people being stupid, nothing crazy like getting a crash on camera tho. Using a GoPro hero2 mounted right behind the rear view mirror would be (i have a wink mirror instead)

I've taken dashcam video before but don't have anything interesting other than my offroad excursion I posted a while back.

Here is a few excerpts from my commute to work this morning. I set the dash cam on its super highest setting for this video so you can see it at its best, but I usual go one notch down witch is more like a "standard def" TV and I get a hell of a lot more video before it starts overwriting.
I did notice constant "hitching" when it is set on this detail level but am unsure if this is due to my slow memory card or a flaw with the camera. That hitching is not there on standard def.
Also, BTW, no sound, and I forgot to check to see if that is a setting or a limitation of the camera, but none of my vids so far have had sound. I'll try and check later and make note of it here.

Looks pretty good for that price point. Mind taking some night video? If the night video is good, I'll end up getting one.
Also, I believe it's a setting. It looks like there is a mic and/or speaker on the most rear top left of the camera. The description also says there is a mic and speaker.

here is a new product for those that like shelling out $200+ bucks:
Garmin Dash Cam (http://www.engadget.com/2014/01/09/garmin-dash-cam-hands-on/)

I got an HD ebay dash cam for around 50 bucks. It's one of these http://dashcamtalk.com/g1w/
It's been sitting on my kitchen counter for a month or so, I've just not had time to install it yet. It had good reviews around the interwebs though, and is HD for a lot less than the Garmin.

Get er done mang! I would really like to know how it works for you. That would work out great possibly as an additional cam angle for my LSRs

 I like the size. I wonder if the radio is 'defeatable' (similar to putting an android phone in airplane mode)....especially since Garmin doesn't stand behind the accuracy of the network (if the commenters portrayal of the disclaimer screens that have to be clicked through is accurate).

That is the funny thing about them. They don't stand behind the accuracy yet law enforcement considers location data from a GPS made by them as undisputed evidence in cases against perps I have seen. The 220 bucks though is for the birds.

Have any of the cases you've seen gone to trial and had the judge (or for that matter a jury) see the other side of that from the LEOs (thinking that the company not standing behind the results creates reasonable doubt) ?

Not in the cases I have read about. On the flipside I have seen a defending lawyer try and say that Garmin and Tom Tom etc do not lock in on enough sat signals to warrant them being considered accurate in the least. Regardless GPS related companies have to give their disclaimer just like a coffee house has to have "caution hot liquid" or the like because people inherently suck and would try to sue them.

I mainly find this stuff pretty interesting from the Big Brother perspective so I have done a lot of research on it.
